초등 5-6학년 국어 교과서의 이데올로기 양상 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 5-6학년 국어 교과서를 분석하여 국가에서 지향하는 이데올로기가 반영된 양상을 살피고, 국어 교과서에서 이데올로기를 어떻게 다루어야 하는지 짚어보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 초등 5-6학년 국어 교과서 여덟 권에 실린 제재를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 초등 5-6학년 국어 교과서에 ‘민족의식, 자기 주도성, 더불어 사는 삶, 지속 가능성, 건강한 생활, 민주 시민’의 이데올로기가 구현되어 있음을 확인하였다. 애국심과 전통문화라는 하위 이데올로기를 포함하는 민족의식을 제외하고 다른 이데올로기들은 교육과정과 교과서 집필 기준에 제시된 이데올로기임을 확인하였다. 초등 5-6학년 국어 교과서에서는 특정 이데올로기를 강요하지 않고 공동체의 가치를 담은 다양한 이데올로기를 추구하고 있다는 점에서 긍정적으로 평가할 수 있다. 다만 일부 제재의 경우 이데올로기의 전달이 지나치게 모범적이거나 상투적이어서 오히려 공감을 얻기 어렵다는 점은 아쉬운 부분이다. 또한 다문화, 통일 대비 교육, 인권 및 사회적 소수자에 대한 이해 등은 교육 내용으로 포함되어야 할 중요한 이데올로기들임에도 소략하게 다루어지거나 다루어지지 않은 점, 이데올로기를 비판적으로 분석·성찰하고, 이를 주체적으로 수용 또는 거부하면서 삶의 실천으로 나아가게 하는 활동이 부족하다는 점은 개선이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study examines how ideologies promoted by the country are reflected in Korean language textbooks for fifth and sixth graders under the 2015 Revised National Curriculum, and it explores how these ideologies should be addressed. Analysis of eight textbooks reveals ideologies such as “national consciousness, self-directedness, communal living, sustainability, healthy living, and democratic citizenship.” National consciousness, which includes sub-ideologies, such as patriotism and traditional culture, stands out, whereas other ideologies align with those outlined in the curriculum. This can be evaluated positively as Korean language textbooks in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary school pursue various ideologies containing community values without forcing specific ideologies. However, in the case of some texts, it is regrettable that it is difficult to gain sympathy because the representation of ideology is too exemplary or cliche. In addition, gaps were found, including superficial or omitted coverage of topics such as multiculturalism, unification, human rights, social minorities, and along with a lack of activities encouraging critical engagement with ideologies.
