이 글에서는 신라 중고기 핵심 군사조직이며 삼국통일전쟁∼나당전쟁시 큰 역할을 담당했던 6정이 전쟁 이후 신라 군사조직 재편과정에서 해체되었는지, 아니면 존치되었는지를 논의해보고자 한다. 삼국통일 이후에도 6정은 변화하거나 축소, 또는 소멸되지 않고 계속 존속되었다.‘정’이름을 사용하는 군사조직을 보았을 때 6정은 10정의 상위부대로서 10정을 지휘하였다. 6정과 10정에 소속되어 있는 군관직을 살펴보면 보병군관만 소속되어 있는 6정과 기병군관이 포함되어 있는 10정이 서로 보완관계에 있었다고 판단된다. 6정 중 왕경의 대당을 제외한 5정은 군관구처럼 운영되었다. 5정 중 3정은 1개의 주를 관할하나, 상주정(귀당)은 2~3개의 주를 함께 관할하였다. 6정의 관할구역은 왕경-지방을 연결하는 교통로와 연관되며, 1개의 정은 교통로상 경유지를 묶어 관할하였다. 6정의 각 구성부대는 같은 금색을 쓰는 10정 군사조직을 예하에 두고 지휘하였다. 왕경에서 출발하는 간선 교통로를 관리하기 쉬운 교통의 요지에 10정을 두고, 하나의 간선 교통로가 연결된 지역을 묶어 대당 외 지방 주둔 5정이 광역의 군관구의 모습으로 지휘하였다. 다만 완산정의 경우 금색이 백자인 데 반해, 삼량화정, 소삼정, 미다부리정은 금색이 흑색이기에 금색이 다르다. 이는 금마저에서 반란이 일어나자, 신라는 반란 진압 후 이 지역을 감시, 통제하기 위해 상대적으로 군사적 위험도가 낮고, 왕경과 가까운 거리에 있어 왕경의 군사들이 빠르게 투입될 수 있는 남방지역을 관할하는 하주정을 폐지, 완산정으로 개편했기 때문으로 완산정은 반란 감시란 명확한 목적을 가지고 만들어졌기 때문에 예하에 10정 조직을 두지 않았기 때문으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

In this article, we aim to discuss whether the Yukjeong (Six Corps), a core military organization during Silla's Middle and Late Period that played a significant role in the wars of the unification of the Three Kingdoms and the Silla-Tang War, was disbanded or retained during the restructuring of Silla's military system after these wars. Even after the unification of the Three Kingdoms, the Yukjeong continued to exist without significant changes, reductions, or dissolution. Looking at military units that used the term 'jeong' (corps), the Yukjeong appears to have been the superior command unit over the Sipjeong (Ten Corps). When examining the military officer positions within the Yukjeong and Sipjeong, it is observed that the Yukjeong included only infantry officers, whereas the Sipjeong included cavalry officers as well, indicating a complementary relationship between the two organizations. Among the Yukjeong, the Daedang (Capital Corps) in the royal capital was an exception, while the other five jeong functioned similarly to military districts. Of these five, three jeong governed a single province (ju), but the Sangjujeong (Gwidang) governed two to three provinces together. The jurisdiction of the Yukjeong was closely linked to transportation routes connecting the royal capital and local regions, with each jeong overseeing specific waypoints along these routes. Each Yukjeong unit commanded subordinate Sipjeong units, which used the same geumsaek (unit color) system. The Sipjeong units were stationed at strategic transportation hubs originating from the royal capital, facilitating control over regions connected by main routes. The five local jeong, excluding the Daedang in the capital, managed vast military districts based on these transportation networks. However, the Wansanjeong presented an exception. While most jeong used the same geumsaek, the Wansanjeong used white, differing from the black geumsaek of the Samryanghwajeong, Sosamjeong, and Midaburijeong. This distinction is believed to have resulted from a rebellion in Geummajeo. After suppressing the rebellion, Silla reorganized the region for surveillance and control, disbanding the Hajujeong, which governed the relatively low-risk southern region near the capital, and restructuring it into the Wansanjeong. The Wansanjeong was established with the specific purpose of monitoring rebellion and, unlike other jeong, did not command subordinate Sipjeong units.
