국문 초록

본 연구는 1960년대 미국 흑인민권운동과 가스펠음악의 상호작용을 분석하며, 가스펠음악이 사회적 변화의 도구로 기능한 방식을 탐구한다. 특히, 마틴 루터 킹 주니어의 활동에서 가스펠음악이 공동체의 정체성과 연대감을 강화한 사례를 다룬다. 과 같은 노래가 저항의 상징으로 작용했음을 강조하며, 음악이 개인과 공동체의 치유와 결속에 미친 영향을 논의한다. 가스펠음악은 단순한 종교적 표현을 넘어 정치적 메시지를 전달하는 중요한 역할을 하였다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the interaction between the African American civil rights movement and gospel music in the 1960s, exploring how gospel music functioned as a tool for social change. It specifically addresses how gospel music reinforced community identity and solidarity in the activities of Martin Luther King Jr. The study emphasizes the role of songs like “We Shall Overcome” as symbols of resistance and discusses the impact of music on the healing of individuals and the cohesion of the community. Gospel music transcended mere religious expression, playing a crucial role in conveying political messages.
