북한 역사학계의 『자본주의적 생산에 선행하는 제형태』의 수용과 ‘고대’ 논쟁의 종말

국문 초록

북한 역사학계에서 삼국 시기 사회경제 구성에 관한 논쟁이 진행될 무렵, 마르크스의 遺稿 『자본주의적 생산에 선행하는 제형태』가 유입되었다. 당시 논쟁은 삼국 시기 노예제 사회설과 봉건제 사회설이 대립하고 있었는데, 『자본주의적 생산에 선행하는 제형태』는 림건상과 백남운으로 대표되는 삼국 시기 노예제 사회설을 주장하는 연구자들에게 적극적으로수용되었다. 마르크스의 ‘총체적 노예제’는 조선사의 정체성론을 극복할 수 있는 대안으로 받아들여졌기 때문이다. 삼국시대 早期 봉건사회설을 주장했던 김석형은 마르크스주의역사학의 이론적인 문제보다는 조선사의 구체적이며 역사적인 현실이 우선시되어야 한다는입장을 표명했다. 결국 이 논쟁은 고조선·부여 등을 고대 노예 소유자 사회로, 삼국시대를봉건사회로 서술한 『조선통사(상)』(1962)가 간행되면서 마무리되었다. 이 과정에서 『자본주의적 생산에 선행하는 제형태』의 이론적 근거는 조선 고대사의 역사에서 형식적으로 채용되었다. 조선사에서의 마르크스-레닌주의의 창조적 적용이라는 ‘고대’ 논쟁의 경과와 종말은, 이후 북한 역사학이 마르크스주의 역사학으로부터 굴절되고 왜곡되는 중요한 계기이자분기점이 되었다.

영문 초록

When the circles of historical studies had disputes over the social and economic composition of the period of the Three Kingdoms in North Korea, Marx's posthumous work titled Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations was introduced into the country. At that time, the disputes were divided between the slavery society theory and the feudal society theory during the period of the Three Kingdoms. Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations was actively embraced by the researchers who argued the slavery society theory for the period of the Three Kingdoms. Representative members were Lim Geon-sang and Baek Nam-woon. They accepted Marx's “general slavery system” as an alternative to overcome the identity theory of Joseon history. Arguing the early feudal society theory for the period of the Three Kingdoms, Kim Seok-hyeong expressed his position that the specific and historical reality of Joseon history should come before theoretical issues. Their disputes came to an end after The Complete History of Joseon was published. The book explains Gojoseon and Buyeo as an ancient society of slave owners and the Three Kingdoms as a feudal society. In this process, the theoretical grounds of Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations were formally adopted in the ancient history of Joseon. The process and conclusion of the disputes over “Ancient Era” centered around the creative application of Marxism-Leninism to the history of Joseon and provided an important opportunity for the later historical studies of North Korea to get refracted and distorted from Marxist historical studies.
