국문 초록

이 글은 2019 년 이후 정치적 주체로 떠오른 ‘이대남’ 현상의 원인과 영향을 분석하여, ‘이대남’ 현상이 한국사회의 현실과 어떻게 접목하는지 진단해보기 위해 작성되었다. 먼저 ‘이대남’이 형성되어 온 맥락에 대해 분석했다. ‘이대남 현상’은 남북 아이스하키 단일팀 구성의 공정성 문제 및 ‘넷페미니즘’에 대한 반감과 성별할당제에 대한 비판등이 맞물려서 형성되었다. 조선일보를 필두로 한 보수언론 및 보수정치인들은 이런 ‘이대남’의 목소리에 적극 호응했다. 결국 대통령 선거에서 여성가족부 폐지 공약을 이끌어내는성과를 거두었다. 그러나 여성가족부 폐지 공약은 세계적 흐름과 유리되는 반인권적 공약이었고, 이대남이 강조하는 ‘공정’에는 불평등에 대한 개선의지가 담겨 있지 않다는 점에서한계도 뚜렷하다고 하겠다. 여기서 ‘이대남’의 특징으로 열거한 공정과 능력주의 등의 가치는 다수의 한국인들이공감하고 있는 것이라는 점을 짚을 필요가 있다. 그런 측면에서 보자면 ‘이대남’ 현상은한국사회를 적나라하게 보여주는 리트머스 시험지라고 볼 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This article aims to analyze the causes and effects of the phenomenon of males in their 20s in Korea(“Yi Dae Nam” phenomenon), which has emerged as a political issue since 2019, and to diagnose how it relates to the reality of Korean society. First, we analyzed the context in which the phenomenon of males in their 20s in Korea has been formed. It was first formed in response to the discussion over fairness of the united ice hockey team between the two Koreas, as well as the backlash against 'net feminism' and criticism of the gender quota system. Conservative media and conservative politicians, led by Chosun Ilbo, actively responded to the voices of males in their 20s, and eventually led to the pledge to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family during the presidential election. However, such pledge was against human rights, opposite from the global trend, and the 'fairness' emphasized by Korean males in their 20s does not contain the willingness to improve inequality. It is worth pointing out that the values that Korean males in their 20s pursue such as fairness and meritocracy are shared by many Koreans in general. In that sense, the phenomenon of males in their 20s in Korea can be seen as a litmus paper of Korean society.
