<신들의 깊은 욕망>이 표상하는 전후 일본 모더니티의 복잡성

국문 초록

이마무라 쇼헤이의 첫 번째 컬러 영화 <신들의 깊은 욕망>(1968)은 이전 영화들의 주제의식 및 작가적 태도를 관통한다. 그럼에도 <신들의 깊은 욕망>에 대한그간의 평가는 ‘원 일본으로의 회귀’ 또는 ‘전전 제국주의에 바탕을 둔 일본적 내셔널리즘의 확인’차원에 한정되었다. 선행연구는 이마무라 전작에서 반복되는 소재들에 집중하는 반면 그 소재에 대한 이마무라의 시선 변화를 감지하지 못한 아쉬움이 있다. 전후 일본의 모더니티 재고에 대한 이마무라의 시각은 <신들의 깊은 욕망>을 전작과의 관계 속에서 해석할 때 발견할 수 있다. 이마무라는 <신들의 깊은 욕망>을 통해 전후 일본 모더니티에 비판적으로 접근한다. 전후 일본사회는 한국 전쟁, 베트남 전쟁 특수와 함께 정치⋅사회⋅문화의 총체적 변화를 경험하며 전후의 탈진을 극복하는 과정에서 새로운 모더니티가 조성된다. 전후 일본 모더니티는 전범국가 일본의 형질전환과 함께 구축되었다. 이 과정에서 천황과 미국, 전쟁과 평화, 패전, 냉전의 문제 그리고 이에 따르는 계급, 세대, 젠더의 갈등 등 마이너리티의 목소리는 경제성장의 미명아래 비가시화 되었다. <신들의 깊은 욕망>은 <일본곤충기>(1963), <인간증발>(1967)과 마찬가지로마이너리티에 대한 이마무라의 관심과 전전에서 전후에 이르는 일본의 역사에대한 재인식이 담겨있다. 또한 이마무라는 영화적 실험과 영화 제작에 대한 자전적 면모, 경제적 부흥과 전후에 대한 역사 인식에 지속적인 ‘재고’를 언급한다. 이는 현재의 정치적 현실과 그 정체를 규명하기 위해 역사의 루트를 살펴야 한다는 이마무라의 창작 방법론으로 이어진다. <신들의 깊은 욕망>에서 이마무라는인류학을 동시대 일본의 정체와 마주하는 태도이자 기록의 방법론으로 삼는다. <신들의 깊은 욕망>은 종횡으로 가로지르는 카메라 워크와 그리드의 미장센, 음향의 충돌, 시점 쇼트 배제 등의 스타일과 함께 시대와 세대가 종횡으로 뒤얽힌일본 전후 갈등의 복잡성을 표상하고 곧장 그 ‘틈새’를 파헤친다. 즉, 이마무라는역사의 투명성을 의심하며 그 물질적 토대를 드러낸다. 나아가 액자구조의 엔딩에서는 이마무라의 자의식인 주인공 카메타로를 통해 모든 폭력이 공동체를 위한 일로 합리화되는 것에 비판적 시선을 표명한다.

영문 초록

Shohei Imamura’s the first colour film (1968) goes through the thematic consciousness and artistic attitude of his previous film. In spite of that, has been considered as ‘reversion to the Original Japan still intact’ or ‘confirmation of Japanese Nationalism that is based on Showa period’s imperialism’. Major researches have been focused on repetitive subject with whole Imamura’s films, while have not been perceived his alteration of vision. Considering with all of his films, makes the possibility of Imamura’s reconsideration points about postwar Japanese modernity. Postwar Japanese society have been made of new modernity in the conquering postwar exhaustion with whole rapid changing of politic, society and culture through the Korean-War and the Vietnam-War. In the postwar Japanese modernity which had constructed with Japanese transformation from war criminal to advanced nations which incident to Tenno and America, the war and the peace, the war defeat, the Cold War problems, and in there, a minority’s voices as invisible history like class, generation and gender problems have been hidden under the name of rapid economic growth. Imamura approaches postwar Japanese modernity, critically through . has a new understanding of Japanese contemporary history. Also Imamura reveals continuing interests of a point of ‘reconsideration’ about filmic experiments, an autobiographical aspects about filmmaking and historicity of postwar. It leads to his method that is digging into the inside details of a route of History for investigate a political realities and its substance. Imamura takes an anthropologic as methods of recording and attitude. represents complexity with postwar Japanese tangled, crisscrossed feud and digs the cracks of it directly with a vertically and horizontally criss-crossing camera work, grid mise-en-scéne, collision of sound, exclusion of point of view shot. Then, through a protagonist Kametaro, Imaura expresses critical view of the violence tending to justify itself.
