국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 학령인구 감소와 대학생들의 중도탈락 증가 등 대학이 처한 큰 위기상황에서 교수들은 무엇을 하여야 하는지, 그리고 교수들이 해야 할 역할을 성공적으로 수행하기 위해서는 어떤 역량을 발휘해야 하는지를 구체화하고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위해 후기 청소년들인 대학생들이 겪는 어려움과 대학이 처한 위기 상황에서 교수들의 역할과 역량을 문헌과 44명의 교수들을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 확인하고 교수역량을 모델링하였다. 결과 학생지도, 지원을 위해 대학교 교수들은 멘토, 퍼실리테이터, 커리어 코치 역할을 수행하는 것이 적합한 것으로 확인되었으며, 세 가지 역할을 성공적으로 수행하기 위해 각각의 역할별로 3개 역량 총 9개의 역량이 도출되었고 적합한 것으로 확인되었다. 결론 교수들은 좀 더 적극적이고 확장된 역할을 수행하여야 한다는 것을 명확히 인식하고, 본 연구에서 제시된 세 가지 역할, 멘토, 퍼실리테이터, 커리어 코치 역할을 성공적으로 수행할 수 있도록 역량을 개발하고 발휘하여야 할 것이다. 학교에서는 학생지도와 지원을 위한 역할을 성공적으로 수행할 수 있도록 교수들이 역량을 개발하고 발휘하는데 활용할 수 있는 교내외의 프로그램들을 다양화하고 개발할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to identify what professors should do in the face of major challenges for universities, such as declining school-age population and increasing student attrition rates. Additionally, the study aimed to specify the competencies that professors need to exhibit in order to successfully fulfill their roles. Methods Difficulties experienced by college students as late adolescents and the roles and competencies of professors in the crisis situation of universities were examined through literature review and a survey involving 44 professors. The professor competencies were then modeled based on the findings. Results It was found that professors should assume the roles of mentors, facilitators, and career coaches in order to provide guidance and support to students. For each role, a total of three competencies, resulting in nine competencies overall, were derived and deemed appropriate for successfully fulfilling the respective roles. Conclusions Professors need to recognize the need for more proactive and expanded roles. They should develop and demonstrate the competencies identified in this study in order to successfully perform the three roles of mentor, facilitator, and career coach. Universities should diversify and develop both internal and external programs that enable professors to develop and utilize their competencies to effectively fulfill their roles in student guidance and support.
