에뮬레이션 플러그인(Plug-in) 1176 Rev A 컴프레서의 음향적 특징 비교 연구 - UA 1176 Rev A “Bluestripe”, Waves CLA-76 Bluey를 중심으로 -

국문 초록

본 연구는 제조사별 컴프레서의 음향적 특징을 비교하기 위해 대표 FET 컴프레서 플러그인 중 Universal Audio社의 1176 Rev A “Bluestripe” 컴프레서와 Waves社의 CLA-76 Bluey 컴프레서를 각각 선정하여 플러그인 측정 프로그램을 통해 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과 동일 하드웨어 아웃보드를 모델링 기술을 통해 플러그인 소프트웨어로 복각하였다 하더라도 음향적 특징은 제조사마다 큰 차이를 보였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 청취자 그룹의 모니터링 음향에 대한 전문가 설문조사 결과 Mid-High Frequency대역이 부스트 되는 1176 Rev A 컴프레서와 Low Frequency 부스트 및 High Frequency 대역이 커팅이 되는 CLA-76 Bluey 컴프레서의 사운드 차이가 명료하게 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 논문의 특성상 두 컴프레서의 사운드의 차이를 글로 전달하는 것은 한계가 있지만, 플러그인 데이터 분석기를 통한 수치화된 자료와 청취자 그룹 설문결과를 연구의 보조지표로 제공함으로써 사용자가 자신이 원하는 사운드에 가장 효과적인 컴프레서를 선택할 수 있도록 참고자료를 제시했다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 갖는다.

영문 초록

In this research, Universal Audio's 1176 Rev A 'BlueStripe' compressor and Waves' CLA-76 Bluey compressor were selected among the representative FET compressor plug-ins and have done comparative analysis through plug-in measurements in order to compare the acoustic characteristics of compressors made by manufacturer. As a result of the analysis, even if the same hardware outboard was reproduced as plug-in so ftware through modeling technology, acoustic feature had big differences between manufacturers. Based on the result of this studythe survey of a group of listeners showed the difference between 1176 Rev A compressor with Mid-High Frequency Band Boosted and ClA-76 Bluey compressor with Low Frequency Band Boosted, High Frequency reduced. Even though there is difficult to explain by words about the difference between the sounds of the two compressors, It is significant in that it has presented references so that users can make a choice the most effective compressors for their sound by providing objective data that is quantified through the data analysis of the plug-in and the results of a group of listeners survey as a supporting indicator for the study.
