국문 초록

수 · 당 長安에 살았던 주민의 거주지와 매장지의 변천에 관한 사료 · 자료는 현재 막대한 양에 이르고 있다. 그러나 잔존하는 사료와 향후 발견될 가능성이 높은 사료의 양을 생각하면 이에 대한 연구는 아직 걸음마 단계에 불과하다. 따라서 본고에서는 연구 현황을 간략하게 정리한 후 향후 전망을 제시하고자 한다. 수의 대흥성과 이를 계승한 당의 장안성이 직면한 사회문제 가운데 하나는 도성에 거주하고 있는 수십만 명에 달하는 주민들의 葬地를 어떻게 확보하여 정비하고 관리하느냐는 문제였다. 수 · 당 장안성 주변에는 피장자의 사회적 지위와 성별, 직업, 종교, 재산의 정도 등에 따라 차이는 있으나 무수히 많은 묘지가 조영되었다. 이러한 장안성 밖의 묘지는 성 내 거주지와 밀접하게 연관되어 장안 사회를 구성하였다. 따라서 장지의 확보와 조영, 그리고 유지는 당시 장안성에 거주했던 주민들에게는 절실한 문제였다. 본고에서 다루고자 하는 것은 이러한 도성의 주민과 장지의 관련성이다.

영문 초록

There are a lot of historical materials on the transition of urban residences and burial places in and around Sui Tang Chang`an. A plenty of epitaphs have been found in recent years. The research on the relationship between urban residences and burial places of inhabitants of Chang`an has just begun. In this paper, I tried to examine the present status of the research on the field. Inhabitants of Sui Tang Chang`an should have in confronting many social problems. One of most important problems is to manage the space of residents and burial grounds. In the vicinity of the capital Chang`an, countless cemeteries are built. There are different cemeteries for different ethnic and religious groups and different social classes. The residential area inside the city and the cemetery in the outside are closely connected with each other. Acquisition, construction and maintenance of the funeral land was an urgent matter for residents in Chang`an. I would like to examine the relationship between the residents of Chang`an city and the burial ground in the suburbs.
