『새한글성경』 신약성경에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 2021년 말에 출판된 『새한글성경: 신약과 시편』(이하, 『새한글성경』) 을 연구한다. 이 성경은 2011년 이래로 약 10여 년간 39명의 학자들의 노고의 산물이다. 다만, 구약성경 없이 신약성경 전권과 시편만 출판되었다. 총 865쪽 중 652쪽의 분량을 차지하는 『새한글성경』 신약성경은 “젊은이들”을 위해 원문에 충실하면서 한국어 어법이 허용하는 한 ‘새롭고 참신한 용어와 방식“으로 번역되었다(머리말). 이를 위해 16가지의 원칙(“번역특징”)을 기준으로 번역되었다. 그 결과 『새한글성경』은 성도들(특별히, 젊은 세대)에게 보다 친근한 한국어 표현으로 성경을 읽을 기회를 제공했다. 하지만 『새한글성경』의 가장 큰 기여는 최신 헬라어 성경 UBS5/NA28을 번역 대본으로 삼은 것이다. 2012년에 출간된 NA28에 ECM 공동서신 본문이 편입되면서 NA28은 이전의 판본과 다른 읽기 본문을 제시한다. 정식 번역이 없었기에 그간 깊이 다뤄지지 못했던 본문의 변경의 중요한 주제를 『새한글성경』가 번역됨으로 논의할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 장점에도 불구하고, 『새한글성경』에 번역상의 의문점들(번역기법, 문학형식, 문장형식, 용어선택, 신약성경 목록명의 처리)이 없는 것은 아니다. 특별히, 용어선택은 재고가 필요하다. 다만, 『새한글성경』의 머리말이 밝히듯, 본 번역은 예배용을 위해 준비된 것이 아니기에 새로운 시도가 의의가 있을 수는 있다. 더불어, 구약성경이 출판되어 합본 되기까지 시간이 있기에 교정을 거쳐 완성되길 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

This article studies New Korean Translation: The New Testament and Psalms(subsequently, NKT) that was published around the end of this year. This translation is the result of thirty-nine scholars’ efforts for about the last 10 years since 2011. However, the New Testament and Psalms were published without the Old Testament. The NKT New Testament, which accounts for 652 pages out of a total of 865 ones, was translated for the “young” generation with “new and proper terms and methods” as long as the Korean grammar allows it while faithful to the Vorlage(preface). For this purpose, the NKT was translated based on the sixteen principles of translation(“translation characteristics”). As a result, the NKT has provided the believers(especially, the younger generation) with an opportunity to read the Bible in a more friendly Korean. But the greatest contribution of the NKT to Korean Christianity is that it was translated on the basis of the newest Greek New Testament edition UBS5(=NA28). With the incorporation of the Catholic Epistles of ECM into NA28, both NA28 and UBS5 turned to present different readings from previous Greek New Testament editions. With the translation of the NKT, the changes of the text, which had not been deeply dealt with due to no official translation, were able to be discussed. Despite its advantages, the NKT has some translational questions(e.g. translation technique, literary format, sentence form, term selection, and the catalog of book names). In particular, terminology requires rethinking. But, as the preface of the NKT states, this translation is not for public worship, and so a new attempt of this translation may be considerable. In addition, it is expected that the translation will be completed through proof-reading before the entire Bible of NKT will be published since there is time for the publication of the Old Testament.
