The ‘Stop-out’ Experience and the Labor Market Performance

국문 초록

최근 들어 많은 학생은 졸업을 성공적으로 마칠 때까지 학교생활 중에 잠시 휴학을 선택하는 경우가늘고 있다. 대학생들이 휴학을 선택하는 것에 관한 연구들이 많지만, 휴학경험이 학생들의 졸업 후노동시장 진출에 도움이 되는가에 대한 연구는 많지 않다. 이 논문은 일시적인 휴학(stop-out)경험이졸업 후 노동시장에 진출에 미치는 영향을 밝히고자 하였다. 2015GOMS 데이터를 사용하였으며, 데이터에 포함된 2015년 4년제 대학 졸업자는 10,016명(15-29세)이였으며, 분석 모델은 OLS 선형회귀모형, 순서형 프로빗 모형 등 다양한 분석 모델을 활용하였다. 주요 결과를 요약하면, 휴학동기가명확할수록 노동시장에서의 성과가 높았으며, 대학생활 중에 명확한 취업 목표 있으면 취업에 대해매우 적극적이고 노동시장에서의 성과도 높은 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

Many Korean college students choose to take short ‘stop-out’ from school to postpone their graduation until they are successful in getting a job. Many studies showed that more college students choose to stop-out but there is not much research on whether the stop-out experience will help graduates enter the labor market. This research will study the effect of temporary ‘stop-out’ experience in college on the performance in the labor market after graduation and find the importance of setting employment targets. The data observations are the 10,016 young graduates (15-29 years old) from four-year universities who graduated in 2015 from 2015GOMS data. Analysis models are various such as OLS models and order probit models. To sum up the main results, the clearer the motivation for taking a temporary ‘stop-out’, the greater the achievement in the labor market. In addition, there is a very positive and significant effect on employment when there is clear employment goal in college life. If there are clear job goals during college life, they will be very active in finding jobs and perform well in the labor market.
