종가(宗家)의 조상을 향한 헌다(獻茶)에 대한 생활문화적 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 종가에 대한 사례조사를 토대로 기술된 문헌인 『대한민국 명문종가 100』에서 조상을 향한 헌다(獻茶)의 내용이 담긴 7종가를 고찰대상으로 선정하여 각 종가의 생활사적 특징과 헌다의 상황별 양상을 분석하고 그에 내재된 생활문화적 의의를 규명하는 데 목적을 두었다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 각 종가의 헌다는 생활문화의 산물로 종가의 정체성을 보존하고 삶의 정신적 뿌리에 대한 후손들의 의식을 강화하는 매개가 되고 있었다. 둘째, 종가의 생활문화로서 헌다는 발전적인 변화가 모색되기도 했는데 이는 이전 세대의 전례(前例)를 답습하기보다는 조상을 향한 헌다의 역사성을 되찾고자 하는 종손이나 종친회의 결단력 있는 노력에서 비롯되었다. 셋째, 조상에 대한 제례(祭禮) 가운데 유사고(有事告), 차례(茶禮), 기제(忌祭), 시제(時祭)는 종가의 헌다가 계승되는 문화적 지표가 되고 있었다. 이를 위해 종가의 자연환경과 후손들의 재능을 활용하는 모습은 헌다의 생활문화를 창조적으로 계승하는 의지를 반영하였다. 결론적으로 생활문화의 관점에서 살펴본 종가의 헌다는 조상의 생애와 유훈의 중요성을 인식하는 현재의 후손들이 조상을 향해 차를 올리는 의례를 통해 종가의 정체성과 역사성을 재확인하고 그를 후대로 전승해가고자 하는 책무의 실천 노력에 기반하고 있다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the significance inherent in the living culture of tea offering to ancestor in the head family in Korea. For this purpose, seven cases were selected for consideration in 『100 prestigious head families in Korea』, a document based on a case study. The major findings are summarized as follows. First, the offering of tea to ancestors in each head family was a product of living culture, and it was a medium for preserving the identity of the head family and strengthening the consciousness of the descendants of the spiritual roots of life. Second, the tea offering to the ancestor as the living culture of the head family originated from the decisive efforts of the eldest grandson of the head family and the clan gathering to restore the historicity of the ritual. Third, the use of the natural environment and the talents of descendants to offer tea to the ancestor of the head family reflected their willingness to creatively inherit such living culture. In conclusion, the tea offering to the ancestor of the head family from the perspective of living culture is based on the efforts of the current descendants to reconfirm the identity and historicity of their head family through the ritual and to pass it on to the next generation.
