『華陽九曲圖』 題畵詩文을 통해서 본 華陽九曲

국문 초록

이 글은 화양구곡의 의미를 화양구곡에 새겨진 여러 석각과 이형부가 그린 『화양구곡도』에 적힌 글을 살펴보고 그 의미를 서술한 것이다. 그간 화양구곡과 관련해 여러 편의 논문이 있음에도 불구하고 화양구곡 주변의 인문 지리 경관과 구곡의 이름에 대한 해명이 여전히 미진하다고 판단하여 먼저 이 부분을 예비 작업의 차원에서 간략히 검토하였다. 이어 李馨溥가 그린 『화양구곡도』에 쓴 題辭와 함께 합벽된 宋達洙의 시, 그리고 그림에 적힌 석각을 모두 확인하고 이를 번역한 뒤에 그 의미를 서술하였다. 특히 이형부가 『화양구곡도』에 적어 넣은 시를 판독하여 『韓山世稿』에 실은 「題華陽九曲圖」는 그림에 적힌 글을 추후에 수정한 것이라는 의견을 제시하고 이 글을 번역하여 본래 그림에 적힌 부분과 어떻게 다른지를 서술하였다. 이런 과정을 통해 화양구곡은 송시열의 정신을 그 제자들이 자연의 구상물에 투영하여 자연과 인문이 어울린 경관으로 조성한 것이며, 宋洛憲이 粧䌙한 『화양구곡도』는 구곡의 실경뿐만 아니라 그 너머에 있는 구곡을 만든 근본적 이유인 송시열의 정신과 출처를 다시 그림에 담아내기 위한 노력의 일환이었음을 밝혔다. 아울러 이형부의 『화양구곡도』는 1809년에 이형부가 그림을 그리고, 1844년에 송달수가 구곡시를 썼는데, 그의 손자 宋落憲이 1924년에 지금의 형태대로 시화를 합벽하여 장황한 상황을 이번에 구체적으로 확인하였다. 이들의 이런 행동은 송시열의 정신을 계승하려는 노력의 일환으로 파악된다. 이 논문은 화양구곡의 각석과 그림, 합벽시를 상호 연결하여 이해함으로써 화양구곡의 의미를 보다 입체적으로 이해하는데 도움을 준다.

영문 초록

This study aims to illuminates the features and meanings of the nine valleys at Hwayang in the paintings and poems during the late Joseon, especially the album of Painting of the Nine Valleys at Hwayang painted by Yi Hyeongbu and inscribed by Song Dalsu. Hwayang valley is beautiful scenery site of the Chungchung province in Southern Korea and a famous place where Song Siyeol, the great scholar known as Korean Zuxi, stayed. This study tried to interpretate the written documents such as inscription by Yi Hyengbu on his painting of the nine valleys at Hwayang, inscribed poems by Song Dalsu on the painting, carved letters on rocks in the painting, and the poems in Hansansego which is the anthology of literary works by Yi Hyengbu, and could reach several significant conclusions. One is understanding hidden meanings of the nine names for the nine valleys at Hwayang because many studies before had overlooked the names. The most important one is that Yi Hyengbu s painting of the valleys is not only the description of the scenery but also reflective of the ideas Song Siyeol insisted. In the other words, Yi Hyengbu painted the valleys in order to show the combination of Song Siyeol s ideal theory and the natural scenery of Hwayang valley. Furthermore, this study discovered the actual process in which Yi Hyengbu s paintings and Song Dalsu’s poems became an album. Yi Hyengbu painted it in 1809, Song Dalsu wrote down his poem on the painting in 1844, and Song Lakheon who is the grandson of Song Dalsu mounted this album in 1924. It would be said that the process of making this album, Painting of the Nine Valleys at Hwayang, for a long time revealed continuous efforts to realize Song Siyeol s ideas.
