국문 초록

이 연구는 1998년 인도네시아 민주화에 결정적인 역할을 했던 여성운동, 수아라 이부 쁘둘리(걱정하는 어머니 목소리, SIP)에 관한 연구이다. SIP(Suara Ibu Peduli)는 기존 연구나 미디어에서 1998년 아시아 경제 위기 시기에 나타난 ‘빈곤 구제 중산층 어머니 운동’으로 주로 평가되어왔다. 이러한 공동체기억은 여성의 용기와 지혜를 돌봄으로 축소시켜 성차별을 공고히 하는 가부장적 시각이다. 이 연구는 크렌쇼의 상호교차성 이론을 통해 SIP 운동을 재조명하였다. 크렌쇼는 인종차별과 성차별에 놓여있는 흑인 여성들이 법적인 보호나 주류인권운동에서 배제되었다는 것을 보여주었다. 그는 여성문제를 하나의 억압 축이 아니라 여러 가지 억압 축을 염두에 두어야 한다는 것을 상기시킨다. 당시, 인도네시아 여성들은 군사독재 국가폭력의 위협아래 있었고, 아시아 금융위기로 빈곤이 사회전역에 확대되었고, 여성을 이부(어머니)로 부르며 희생과 착취를 제도적으로 정당화한 상황아래 있었다. SIP는 다중적 억압 상황에서 자신들은 정치를 모르는 이부(어머니)일 뿐이라고 주장하며 교차성의 정치학을 이용해 정치적인 목소리를 만들어냈다. 시민들은 SIP가 비정치적이라며 물적 지원을 아끼지 않았다. SIP는 공공부엌까지 만들어 수하르토 퇴진운동을 하는 대학생과 시민을 지원했다. 이 연구는 SIP가 애초부터 진보적페미니스트와 여성운동가들에 의해 기획되어진 운동임을 밝히고 그들이 사용한 교차성의 정치학을 분석 하였다.

영문 초록

The study is about Suara Ibu Peduli(SIP, The Voice of Concerned Mother), which appeared in revolutionary period in 1998, in Indonesia. The movement mainly has been evaluated as middle class mother s poverty relief movement in public and Academia. However, this evaluation is a typical patriarchal perspectives which reduce women s movement to carework and consolidate sexism. This evaluation became a community memory which reduce women s wisdom and courage. To deconstruct patriarchal perspectives and reevaluate the movement from feminist perspectives, I used Crenshaw s intersectionality theory. Crenshaw argued that black women s oppression were not addressed properly because they were placed in dead area between racism and sexism. They were excluded in legal protection. She claimed that black women s issue should be deal with not one oppressive axis but multiple axis, such as classism, racism, sexism and etc, At the time of SIP movement was set up, Indonesia women were faced multiple oppressions which were state violence to continue dictatorship, nationwide poverty which was fourfold price rise caused by Asia Economy Crisis and systematic sexism which defined and treated women as mothers who sacrifice themselves for others. With these multiple oppressive situation, they performed the Politics of intersectionality to make political voice in a safe way through claiming they are the mothers who do not know anything about politics. Based on SIP s claim the massive public could support them. SIP even run public kitchen to support university students and civilian who demonstrated against Suharto government. At last, people could drive Suharto regime. The study shows how SIP was founded and proceeded by feminists and analyses SIP s politics of intersectionality.
