다문화미술교육의 이론적 토대

국문 초록

본격적인 다문화사회의 도래로 지난 20여 년간 다문화교육에 대한 연구가 많이 이루어졌고, 다문화 교과교육 분야 중 다문화 미술교육에 대해서도 이론적 및 실천적 연구들이 많이 이루어져왔다. 하지만 다문화 미술교육을 위한 보다 실제적인 연구들이 이루어지기 위해, 다문화 미술교육의 개념과 이론적 토대 및 성격에 대한 검토와 이해, 그리고 방향 제시에 대한 논의가 필요한 실정이다. 본고는 다문화 미술교육의 이론적 토대를 예술사회학에서, 실천의 대표적 사례를 사회참여예술로 보고, 그 이론적 근거를 논의하고자 하였다. 첫째, 예술사회학의 개념과 이론적 토대, 주요 관점을 정리하고, 예술사회학을 뒷받침하는 핵심적 이론 세 가지를 제시하고자 한다. 둘째, 사회참여예술의 개념과 성격을 논의함으로써 다문화 미술교육과의 연관성을 탐색하고자 한다. 셋째, 다문화 미술교육의 변천과정과 다문화 미술교육에 대한 접근(시각)들에 대해 논의하고, 마지막으로 다문화미술교육을 위한 핵심원리를 제시하고자 한다. 본고의 논의는 향후 다문화 미술교육 관련 여러 연구들을 위한 나침판 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The advent of multicultural society has invoked a great volume of research in the area of multicultural education. Nonetheless, the field of subject education has not been enough discussed and practiced, especially in the branch of art education. Having said this, this paper aims to establish and discuss the theoretical bases of multicultural art education from the perspectives of the Sociology of Art and Socially-Engaged Art. In doing so, this paper, first of all, discusses the concept and theoretical foundation of Sociology of Art, and suggests three major threads of theories supporting it. Second, this paper addresses the notions and characteristics of the practices of Socially-Engaged Art. Third and as the key point, this paper analyzes the historical transitions of and different approaches to multicultural art education and pinpoints three kernel principles for the practices of multicultural art education. This paper’s discussion may serve as conceptual guidance for future studies on multicultural art education.
