국문 초록

본 논문은 김려의 <유구왕세자외전>에 담긴 객관적 진실성을 추적하고, 이를 바탕으로 작품의 특성 및 작가의 주제의식에 대해 살핀 것이다. 먼저는 작가가 史傳의 맥락에서 작품을 창작했다고 보고, 작품에 나타난 내용이 얼마만큼의 역사적 진실성을 갖추고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 제주목사의 정체와 絶命詩의 진위 여부, 죽서루의 존재 유무 등을 살핀 결과 내용에 잘못된 정보가 많다는 사실을 논증하였다. 한편으로 <유구왕세자외전>에는 작가의 문학적 역량이 잘 드러나 있다고 보고 작품의 문학적 형상화 방식과 작가의 주제의식에 대해 살펴보았다. <유구왕세자외전>은 유구 왕세자 살해 이야기에 대한 작가의 역사 인식을 바탕으로 史의 내용과 傳의 형식을 교직하여 만든 작품이다. 특히 논평부가 절반이 되는데, 이는 작가가 사관의식으로 작품을 창작했다는 점을 확인해준다. 김려는 유구 왕세자 살해 이야기를 역사적인 진실로 믿고서, 역사적 사건이라는 바탕 위에 자신의 문학적 상상력을 보태 작품을 기술했다. <유구왕세자외전>은 한 인물의 입전기라는 전의 일반적인 특성 외에도 한 인물의 비극적 죽음을 둘러싼 사회 정치적 맥락에도 중요한 의미를 부여하고 있는 작품이라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study is to search for the objective truth of “A Supplementary Story of a Prince, Yoo-Ku”, then to reveal the charateristics of this work and subject sense of the writer. Firstly, considering that this work was created on the basis of a historical accident, it reviews the historical truth in its contents. It comes out that there is false information in reviewing the status of a governor of Jeju, the reality of a poem of suicide (Jeolmyeong poem) and the existance of Ch’ukseo-Ru. In the other sense, it searchs for the subject sense of the writer and the way of presenting literature, considering that it contains well the literary capability in this work. “A Supplementary Story of a Prince, Yoo-Ku” is a story of murdering a prince, Yoo-Ku, with the historical sense of the writer, revealing the contents of history and the form of story in a horizontal intergration way. Specially there is mainly a critics more over half in quantity, which means, the writer created the work on the historical sense. Kim-Rye trusted on the story of murdering a prince as a real history, put his literary imagination on this historical accident. So “A Supplementary Story of a Prince, Yoo-Ku” is a work appreciated in a social and political contexts, more over a simple story of one person’s life and accident.
