남북 분단을 소재로 한 국내 영화 속 정치적 담론과 장소의 재현

국문 초록

본고에서는 대통령 집권기별 대북정책의 기조와 남북관계, 그리고 대북인식의 변화라는 맥락 속에서 국내 분단영화 속 장소 재현의 다양화ㆍ유연화 과정을 살펴보았다. 남북교류가 제한적이었던 김영삼 대통령 집권기의 분단영화에서는 6ㆍ25 전쟁기의 민간인 촌락을 배경으로 하여 전쟁의 비극성을 강조하였다. 대북포용정책이 전 개되었던 김대중 대통령과 노무현 대통령 집권기에는 분단의 상황에서도 남과 북의 인물이 시간적ㆍ공간적 제약 없이 조우하여 발생할 수 있는 에피소드와 인간애를 비롯한 감정적인 교류를 주요 소재로 다루었다. 이명박 대통 령 집권기 이후로는 북한의 도시, 정치범수용소, 북중 접경지역의 경관 묘사를 통해 북한 체제의 비합리성과 지배 권력의 비인간적인 측면을 강조하였고, 남파첩보원과 북한이탈주민을 빈민촌, 재개발지역, 고시원, 흥신소 등의 공간적 배경에 등장시켜 남한사회에서 북한 출신인의 타자성을 상징하였다. 분단영화에 재현된 정치적 담론과 장 소 재현의 특징이 시기별 남북관계의 변화와 대체로 일치하지만 상업성, 작품성, 복합장르 등에 따라 나타나는 개 별 영화 속 장소 재현의 고유성과 차이점을 살펴보기 위해 사례작품을 중심으로 한 심층 분석이 필요하다

영문 초록

This study examines the diversification and flexibilization of representing places in films about the national division in the context of the changes in South Korea’s policies towards North Korea and in inter-Korean relations based on the period of each president in power. Under Kim Young-sam administration, the films about the national division emphasized the tragedy of war. While Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun were in power, the films depicted possible episodes and emotional interactions from the situations where people from the two Koreas happen to encounter. Under Lee Myung-bak administration, films emphasized the instability of the political system of North Korea and inhumane personalities of North Korean leaders. As agents and refugees from North Korea started appearing in movies as main characters, they were described in such places and landscapes as slums, rentalhouses, and redevelopment areas in Seoul, maximizing the symbolic meaning of the North Korean characters marginalized in South Korea. Although the films about the national division is generally in accordance with the inter- Korean relationships, further in-depth studies are needed to analyze the uniqueness of individual works based on the characteristics of their marketability, artistic quality, and sub-genres.
