청소년의 휴대폰 사용에 대한 부모의 편견

국문 초록

청소년의 부모들은 휴대폰이 청소년에게 학교생활 부적응을 포함한 다양한 문제점을 일으킨다는 생각을 통념으로 갖고 있다. 본 연구는 이 점에 주목하여 부모들의 생각이 일방향적인 편견이 아닌가 하는 문제의식을 갖고, 과연 휴대폰 중독이 학교생활 부적응에 영향을 미치는지, 아니면 거꾸로 학교생활 부적응이 휴대폰 중독에 영향을 주는지에 대해 분석하였다. 즉, 청소년의 휴대폰 중독과 학교생활 부적응 간의 인과관계의 방향을 고찰한 것이다. 분석에는 ‘한국아동·청소년 패널조사’에서 중학교 1학년 패널의 1차 년도 및 2차 년도 자료를 사용하였다. 인과관계의 방향을 분석하기 위하여 패널조사의 장점을 활용하여 휴대폰 중독과 학교생활 부적응의 두 변수 간의 시간적 선후관계를 통해 독립변수와 종속변수를 설정하고 상이한 방향의 두 번의 회귀분석을 시행하였다. 분석한 결과 두 번의 회귀분석이 모두 유의미하며 회귀계수의 값이 미미한 차이를 보여, 인과관계의 방향은 휴대폰 중독이 학교생활 부적응에 영향을 미치는 것뿐만 아니라 반대 방향의 인과관계도 성립함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 부모의 일방향적인 편견을 해소하고 휴대폰 중독과 학교생활 부적응을 함께 개선하려는 개인적, 정책적 노력이 요구된다.

영문 초록

Parents of the youth have a tendency to think that the usage of cell-phone causes a variety of problems, including such a popular belief as school maladjustment. This study has started with a critical idea of wondering if their thoughts are one-way prejudices. So we have attempted to analyze whether the cell-phone addiction would affect on school maladjustment or the other way around. In other words, we have studied about the direction of causality between cell-phone addiction and school maladjustment of the youth. We have used the data of the first and second year from the first grade panel of middle school students among the ‘Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS)’. By taking advantage of the panel survey in order to analyze the direction of causality, dependent and independent variables have been set through a temporal precedence relationship between two variables, the cell-phone addiction and school maladjustment. And we have performed two regression analyses of two different directions. As a result, two regression analyses have shown the statistical results that are both significant and that the differences between the regression coefficients of them are slight. The direction of the causal relationships has turned out to be seen in the school maladjustment on cell-phone addiction as well as in the cell-phone addiction on school maladjustment. Therefore, we would like to safely contend that the empirical outcomes should eliminate parents’ one-way prejudices and that it needs to decrease both a cell-phone addiction and school maladjustment at the same time by the private effort as well as the public policy.
