김추사 ‘무자기(無自欺)’의식의 심미적 고찰

국문 초록

본고는 추사 김정희의 ‘무자기’의식을 맹자의 ‘호연지기’를 기르고 확충하는 방법을 응용하여 심미적으로 고찰한 논문이다. 따라서 추사의 서예연찬과정은 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 배양, 제자교육과정에 나타난 예술론은 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 확충, 그의 대표작에 나타난 고아한 예술품격은 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 발현의 3단계로 구성하여 진행하였다. ‘무자기(毋自欺)’란 ‘자신을 속이지 말라.’는 말이다. 추사의 예술을 꽃피우게 한 그의 심미의식 속에는 ‘무자기’의식이 항상 깊게 자리 잡고 있다. 또한 그것을 배양·확충하고 발현시키는 방법을 그는 정확하게 알고 있었다. 추사의 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 배양과 확충은 모두 실사구시정신에 입각한 철저한 고증과 간단없는 연찬, 그리고 철저한 자기관리의 결과로 이루어진다. 또한 그의 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 발현은 ‘허화경(虛和境)’으로 표출되는데, 허화경이란 공자의 ‘종심소욕불유구’의 경지와 같이 마음을 비우고(虛) 나니 저절로 남들과의 조화(和)가 이루어지는 심미경계이다. 그것이 예술창작으로 이어지면 그곳에는 아무런 흠을 잡을 수가 없다. 그의 대표작 <세한도>, <불이선란도>, <판전>현판에 가장 잘 발현되었다. 추사는 제주에 유배 중이던 어느 날 자신의 초상화를 보면서 그동안 달려온 자신의 일생을 회고한다. “담계(옹방강) 선생은 옛 경전을 좋아한다고 했고, 운대(완원) 선생은 남이 한 말을 다시 말하고 싶지 않다고 하였는데 두 분의 말씀이 나의 평생을 다 드러냈다.” 다시 말하면 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 배양과 확충은 옹방강의 영향으로 이룩하였고 ‘무자기’의식의 심미적 발현은 완원의 영향으로 이룩했다는 독백으로 보인다. 우리는 종종 좋은 서화작품 앞에서 말로는 다 표현할 수 없는 묘한 매력과 아름다움에 매료되어 발길을 옮기지 못하는 경험을 하곤 한다. 특히 추사의 명품 앞에서는 더더욱 그렇다. 그 원인은 추사의 ‘무자기’의식이 심미적으로 잘 발현되었기 때문일 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper is to Thus, it was proceeded by 3 steps that hard study of calligraphy process of Jeonghee Kim is aesthetic culture of ‘not deceiving oneself’ sense, an essay on art appeared on discipleship curriculum is aesthetic expansion of ‘not deceiving oneself’sense and classical artistic quality appeared on his masterpiece is aesthetic expression of ‘not deceiving oneself’sense. ‘not deceiving oneself’ means ‘not deceiving oneself’. In Jeonghee Kim’s aesthetic sense which made produce flowers of his arts, ‘not deceiving oneself’sense was deeply rooted. Also, he knew exactly how to culture, expand and express them. aesthetic culture and expansion of Jeonghee Kim’s ‘not deceiving oneself’sense consisted of results of thorough historical research, hard study and thorough self-management which are based on empirical tradition spirit. Also, his aesthetic expressions of ‘not deceiving oneself’sense were expressed into ‘Heohwagyung’, and ‘Heohwagyung’ is an aesthetic boundary with harmony naturally with others after emptying its mind, such as Jongsimsoyokbulyugu’. When that is connected to artistic creation, there is nothing to find faulty. It was expressed the most in his masterpieces, , and . While Jeonghee Kim was exiling in Jeju, he was looking at his portrait and he looked back on his past. “Damgae (Ongbanggang) liked old scriptures, Undae (Wanwon) said he doesn’t want to say what others said and the words of these two revealed all my life.” In other words, it seems to be a monologue that aesthetic culture and expansion was achieved with effects of Ongbanggang and aesthetic expressions of ‘not deceiving oneself’sense was achieved by effects of Wanwon. We sometimes are fascinated by exquisite charm and beauty which cannot be expressed in front of paintings and calligraphic works and cannot step forward. Especially it is true in front of paintings and calligraphic works. The reason is because ‘not deceiving oneself’sense of paintings and calligraphic works are expressed aesthetically well.
