영문 초록

In spoken Chinese, the use of verb complements helps to express various and complicated semantic contents of the language. The structure of the verb complement has an internal language feature, some “fuzziness” due to its uniqueness in Chinese grammar. Aiming at a new account of this particular grammatical phenomenon of the Chinese language, this study deals with some organizational classification of the verb complement, and the comparison of its formality with somewhat corresponding structure in Korean as well. The study classifies systematically the semantic features of the verb complement, defining its semantic and grammatical structure. Through analyzed materials, it also discusses the nature and position of the verb complement. The verb complement is divided into three types-prototypical verb complement, verb complement in transition, and peripheral verb complement. In addition, the application of some theories of semantics and related theories of cognitive grammar is tried from the synchronic and universal perspective.
