미국 학교음악교육의 다문화주의에 대한 연구

국문 초록

학교음악교육에 있어 다문화주의에 대한 것을 이해하고 체계적으로 수행하기 위해서는 다문화주의라는 것이 어떠한 역사적 배경 하에 생성되었고 교육현장에서 어떻게 실행되고 있는지를 파악해야 한다. 현대음악교육에서 다문화주의란 두 가지 관점에서 중요한 의미를 가지고 있다고 할 수 있다. 하나는 포괄적 음악경험이 주는 음악적 차원에서의 창의성과 다양성에 대한 기초를 제공하는 것이고 또 다른 하나는 문화적 차원으로써 음악이라는 통로를 통해 여러 문화를 접하고 이해함으로써 인류애와 포용, 관용의 심성을 기르는 기초를 제공하는 것이다. 학교교육에서의 이러한 다문화 음악교육은 현대음악교육과정에 있어 필수적으로 고려되어져야 하고 한국의 음악교육과정에 있어서도 적극적으로 수용되어져야 하는 교육이념이다.

영문 초록

Many established curricular programs are undergoing revision to meet the needs of children growing up in a changing society. Music is no exception. If schools are the vehicles through which children are presented with the knowledge and values of a given nation, then the contemporary music program should offer to children the opportunities to experience a broad sampling of the world's musical traditions. The content of music curriculum in American schools has been associated with the art and traditional musics of Western Europe. Since the several substantial movement of music educators trigger the direction of multicultural music education, the present music programs provide the world of music that offers a comprehensive view of the sounds, functions, and meanings of music globally and the many subcultures of a single nation. In the efforts to achieve the contemporary curricular goals of multiculturalism, it is important to analyze the historical backgrounds, the design of an curriculum models and textbooks. The musical expression of groups of people are the focus of multicultural music education, where children are offered active musical and social experience of one and then another musical culture. Music education based on the educational concepts of multiculturalism provides children with knowledge of how groups of people organize the elements of music in unique models of musical expression. In terms of implementing educational approach towards multicultural music education, students should always be exposed to look at music in the framework of its culture. Students should understand fundamental music concepts of another culture but also what the society in question thinks music is, what it can do, how it may be used, and the kinds of events at which it is performed, that is, a music itself and behavior, the ideas and beliefs about music in cultural contexts.
