questionnaires were distributed to 125 male office workers in Jeonbuk area
between October 18th and 24th, 2008. The subjects were aged from 20 to 50
and 63.2% of the subjects were married and 78.2% lived with their family. 53
out of 125(42.4%) had some type of diseases, and hypertension (45.3%) was the
most prevalent disease. 56.8% of the subjects reported that they drank alcohol,
and among them 53.5% drank 3-4 times a week. 64.0% reported that they
smoked cigarettes, and among them 53.8% said that they smoked less than one
pack per day. 78.4% reported that they exercised, and among them 55.1%
exercised 1-2 times per week. In terms of dietary habits of the subjects, 65.6%
reported that they had three meals a day. 46.4% reported that it took 10-15
minutes to finish a meal. 28.0% reported that they ate until they felt full and
14.4% reported that they overate. 61.6% of the subjects said that they ate
snacks 1-2 times a week and 62.4% reported that they dined out 2-3 times a
week. While 52.0% reported that they ate mixed-rice, 48.0% said they ate
white rice. 48.8% reported that they had a well balanced meal and 28.0%
reported that they ate more meats and 18.4% reported that they ate more
vegetables. Whereas 28.8% of the subjects thought that balanced nutrition was
the most important thing when they ate, 19.2% thought that taste of food was
the most important. When the associations among dietary habits, health-related
life style, and general characteristics were studied, male employees who were
in their 20's, lived alone, smoked, did not regularly exercise, and had some
diseases showed to have a higher health risk. It would be effective to develop
programs to educate people based on their individual needs.
