서이초 사건 이후 교사의 정년 계획 인식 변화

국문 초록

본 연구는 교사들의 정년에 관한 인식 변화는 단순히 개인의 특성이 아닌 시대와 환경의 결괴물이라는 가정 하에 2023년 발생한 서이초 사건 전후의 교사 정년 계획의 인식 변화를 살펴보고자 한다. 더불어 20, 30대 교사와 40대 이상의 집단을 구별하여 어느 연령 대의 교사들이 서이초 사건 이후 정년 계획 인식에 가장 큰 영향을 받았는지 탐색하여 그들의 지속가능한 교직생활을 위해 교육정책 및 지원 시스템의 개선 방향을 모색하는데 기반 증거를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국교육개발원에서 구축한 ‘한국초등교원종단연구’의2021~2023년도데이터를이용하여이중차분법논리를 적용하였다. 처치군은 서이초 사건으로 인해 상대적으로 층격이 클 것이라고 예상되는 20, 30대 교사이며 상대적으로 서이초 사건으로 인한 충격이 적을 것이라고 예상되는 40대 이상의 교사가 대조군이다. 연구 결과의 신뢰성을 높이고 연구 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 통계적 편향을 줄이기 위해 성향점수 매칭을 활용하여 집단 간의 편향성을 최소화 하고자 하였다. 연구 결과 모든 연령대에서 서이초 이전부터 꾸준히 정년 계획에 대한 인식이 저하되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 서이초사건이 발생한 이후 실시된 2023년 조사에서는 20, 30대 교사의 정년 계획 인식이 급격하게 하락하면서 두 집단의 차이가 유의하게 변화하였다. 이는 서이초 사건과 이후 일련의 사건들이 젊은 연령층의 교사들의 정년 계획 인식에 더 부정적인 영향을 주었음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examines changes in teachers' perceptions of retirement plans before and after the Seo-i Elementary School incident in 2023, based on the assumption that shifts in these perceptions are not merely the result of individual characteristics but rather outcomes of the era and environment. Furthermore, by distinguishing between teachers in their 20s and 30s and those aged 40 and above, it seeks to explore which age group of teachers was most significantly influenced in their perceptions of retirement plans after the Seo-i Elementary incident. Thi s aims to provide foundational evidence for identifying directions to improve educational policies and support systems to ensure sustainable teaching careers. To achieve thi s, we applied a difference-in-differences logic using data from the 2021-2023 cohort of the 'Korean Elementary Teacher Longitudinal Study' established by the Korea Education Development Institute. The treatment group consists of teachers in their 20s and 30s, who are assumed to have experienced the most significant shift in retirement perceptions due to the Seo-i Elementary incident. The control group comprises teachers aged 40 and above, who are expected to have experienced relatively less change in retirement perceptions due to the incident. To enhance the reliability of the research results and minimize potential statistical biases during the study process, propensity score matching was employed to minimize differences between groups. The results confirmed that across all age groups, perceptions regarding retirement plans had been steadily declining even before the Seoi Elementary incident. However, in the 2023 survey conducted after the Seo-i Element ary incident, the perception of retirement plans among teachers in their 20s and 30s dropped sharply, leading to a significant change in the difference between the two groups. This suggests that the Seo-i Elementary incident and subsequent events had a more negative impact on the retirement plan perceptions of younger teachers.
