국문 초록

본 연구는 조선시대 미디어 활용 교육의 유형과 특성을 분석함으로써, 미디어 및 미디어 교육이 첨단 기술 시대의 전유물이 아닌 범시대적 성격을 지니고 있음을 밝히고 현대 미디어 교육의 본질에 대한 성찰을 시도한다. 조선시대 교육은 유학 경전 교육, 의례 학습, 교화서 및 도해 활용의 세 가지 유형으로 미디어를 활용했다. 유학 경전 교육에서는 문자 미디어(경전)를 심득(深得)과 비판적 의문 제기의 수단으로 삼았으며, 구두 미디어인 강론을 통해 학습의 성취를 강조했다. 의례 학습에서는 실물 미디어(습례용 목판, 방편)와 기록 미디어(홀기, 의궤)를 사용하여 예의 형식을 익혔다. 교화서는 문자(한문/한글)와 그림(도해)을 병행하여 윤리 규범을 효과적으로 전달했다. 이러한 조선시대 교육용 미디어의 가장 중요한 특성은 종이 기반의 인쇄/필사 미디어와 실물 미디어 외에도 교사의 말과 행동 자체가 핵심 미디어였다는 점이다. 결론적으로, 조선시대 미디어 교육의 특징은 현대 미디어 교육에 다음과 같은 시사점을 제공한다. 교육은 미디어의 형태보다 메시지의 본질에 집중해야 하며, 현대의 디지털 리터러시는 조선시대가 강조한 비판적 사고, 심득, 질문 및 토론의 가치와 맥락을 같이함을 재확인시켜 준다. 이는 미디어 교육의 핵심이 기술적 활용 능력을 넘어 정보를 비판적으로 해석하고 소통하는 범시대적 능력에 있음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the types and characteristics of media-utilizing education in the Joseon Dynasty to demonstrate that media and media education possess a trans-era nature, not exclusive to the high-tech age, and to foster reflection on the essence of modern media education. Education during the Joseon period utilized media in three ways: Confucian Classics Education, Ritual Learning (Yele), and the use of Moral Enlightenment Books and Diagrams. In Confucian Classics Education, textual media (the Classics) were used as a means of shimdeuk (deep internalization) and critical questioning, while the oral medium of gangnon (discussion/debate) was emphasized for achieving learning goals. Ritual Learning employed material media (wooden plaques, bangpyeon for practice) and recorded media (holgi, uigye) to master ceremonial forms. Moral Enlightenment Books effectively delivered ethical norms by combining text (Sino-Korean/Korean) and illustrations (diagrams). A key characteristic of these educational media was that, besides paper-based print/manuscript and material media, the teacher's words and actions themselves constituted the most important core medium. In conclusion, the features of Joseon-era media education offer significant implications for modern media education. Education should focus on the essence of the message rather than the form of the media. Furthermore, contemporary digital literacy aligns with the value of critical thinking, shimdeuk, questioning, and discussion emphasized in the Joseon Dynasty, demonstrating that the core of media education lies in the trans-era ability to critically interpret and communicate information, beyond mere technical proficiency.
