국문 초록

본 연구는 마약류 중독당사자가 경험한 외상과 이들의 회복여정을 심층적으로 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 질적 연구 방법을 적용하였으며, 반구조화된 심층면접과 문서를 활용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 자료수집은 2025년 4월에 이루어졌으며, 최종적으로 3명의 마약류 중독당사자가 연구에 참여하였다. 자료분석은 분석적 귀납법과 주제분석을 활용하여 실시하였다. 분석결과 중독당사자가 경험한 외상과 회복여정의 핵심 주제는 황폐하고 무너진 일상, 위기이자 기회가 된 바닥경험, 고군분투하는 회복여정, 받은 도움을 되돌려주고 싶은 바람으로 도출되었다. 외상은 약물사용의 계기가 되기도 하고 참여자가 의미 있고 건강한 삶을 재구성하는데 기여하는 등 회복 전반에 걸쳐 영향을 미쳤다. 이는 회복이 단순한 약물 중단을 넘어 삶의 의미 재발견, 자기 인식과 수용, 사회적 관계 회복을 포함하는 총체적 여정임을 보여주는 것이다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 다층적 회복 지원체계 강화, 낙인 없이 회복을 말할 수 있는 안전한 환경 조성, 트라우마 기반 맞춤형 개입, 회복자 중심 멘토링 시스템 구축 등의 실천적․정책적 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to understand the trauma experienced by people with drug addiction and their recovery journey. To achieve this, qualitative research methods were applied, and data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and documents. Data collection was conducted in April 2025, and ultimately, three people with drug addiction participated in the study. Data analysis was conducted using inductive analysis and thematic analysis methods. The core themes of trauma and recovery journey experienced by people with addiction were identified as: devastated and collapsed daily life, rock-bottom experiences that served as both a crisis and an opportunity, struggling recovery journey, and the desire to give back the help received. Trauma influenced the recovery process as a whole, serving as a catalyst for substance use and contributing to the reconstruction of a meaningful and healthy life. This demonstrates that recovery is a comprehensive journey that goes beyond simply ceasing substance use, encompassing the rediscovery of life’s meaning, self-awareness and acceptance, and the restoration of social relationships. Based on these findings, practical and policy recommendations were proposed, including strengthening a multi-layered recovery support system, creating safe environments where recovery can be discussed without stigma, implementing trauma-informed and tailored interventions, and establishing mentoring systems led by individuals in recovery.
