국문 초록

본 연구는 미국 내 한국계 자녀가 부모에 대해 지각하는 존경과 죄송함이라는 감정이 이중문화 환경에서 어떻게 공존하고 구성되는지를 문화심리학적으로 분석하였다. 한국계 자녀는 유교적 효(孝) 윤리와 관계 중심의 감정 사회화를 통해 부모에 대한 도덕적 책임과 정서적 부채를 내면화하는 한편, 미국 사회의 자율성과 독립성이라는 가치 체계를 내면화하면서 심리적 긴장과 양가감정을 경험한다. 존경은 일반적으로 도덕적 자기효능감과 정체성 형성의 긍정적 자원으로 기능하며, 죄송함은 자기비하나 감정 억제를 유발할 수 있으나, 관계주의적 문화 맥락에서는 정체성 통합의 심리적 동력으로 작용하기도 한다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 선행 연구를 통합 분석하고, 감정 사회화, 상호의존적 자기구조, 관계 중심 정서 규범을 이론적 틀로 삼아, 존경과 죄송함이 단순한 정서 반응이 아닌 문화적으로 조직화된 감정 스크립트로서 작동함을 규명하였다. 이러한 감정 구조는 부모자녀 관계, 자기이해, 정체성 형성, 감정 조절 방식에 깊이 관여하며, 이민 세대의 심리 사회적 적응 과정에 실질적인 영향을 미친다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 존경과 죄송함의 감정이 문화 간 가치 충돌 속에서 공존하는 심리적 구조물로서 기능함을 실증적으로 보여줌으로써, 감정의 문화적 내면화 과정에 대한 문화심리학의 적용 가능성을 확장하였다. 아울러 문화민감적 상담 개입, 정서 및 문화 간 교육, 부모교육의 필요성을 제기하며, 문화 간 정체성 통합을 위한 이론적・실천적 토대를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study explores how Korean American children simultaneously experience respect and indebtedness toward their parents in a bicultural environment, through the lens of cultural psychology. These emotions are internalized through Confucian filial ethics and relational emotion norms, and at the same time shaped by American values of autonomy and independence, which together result in emotional ambivalence and identity tension. Respect functions as a positive psychological resource that fosters moral selfefficacy and coherent identity formation. Indebtedness, although often linked to self-criticism and emotional suppression, may also facilitate identity integration in relationship-oriented cultural contexts. Synthesizing previous studies and applying frameworks such as emotion socialization, interdependent self-construal, and culturally structured emotion scripts, this study demonstrates that these emotions are not isolated responses, but socially organized affective systems. These emotional structures influence how second-generation immigrants construct identity, regulate emotions, and navigate family dynamics. The study underscores the importance of culturally responsive counseling, emotion education, and public mental health strategies to support bicultural identity integration and emotional well-being.
