교육운동 참여의 자유변경 과정과 구조에 관한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

나는 이 글에서 교육운동 참여를 비교적 성공적으로, 오랜 시간 이어가는 사람들이 그 참여의 과정에서 어떠한 체험을 하고 있는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해“햇살교육운동”에 참여하는 세 사람의 교사를 연구 참여자로 삼아 2012년 4월부터2013년 8월까지 약 1년 반 동안 함께 지내며 이야기를 나누고, 그들이 살아가는 모습을 관찰하였으며, 다양한 문서자료들을 수집하였다. 살펴본 결과 연구 참여자들이 햇살교육운동 참여의 과정에서 체험한 것은 ‘자유변경(free variation)’이었다. 연구 참여자들은 이오덕에게서 무엇을 강조할 것인가 선택하고, 이를 바탕으로 햇살교육운동 전개 방향을 탐색하며, 이 방향을 잘 구현해줄 거라 생각되는 다양한 교육활동들을 창안하고 실천하는 방식으로 햇살교육운동을 자유변경 해 가고 있는 것으로 드러났다. 특히 다양한 교육활동들을 구안하고 실천하는 것은 햇살교육운동이 추구하는 교육의 본질을 찾기 위한 자유변경의 핵심 행위라고 볼 수 있다. 이와 같은 햇살교육운동 참여의 자유변경의 양상을 바탕으로 자유변경 현상의 구조를 분석하였다. 이 구조는 ‘선행 지식의 학습’과 ‘창조적 재발견’, ‘존재 물음’과 ‘더 나음: 타자지향의 삶’, 그리고 ‘외연의 확장’과 ‘내포된 속성에 대한 이해의심화’ 등 모두 여섯 가지의 요소들로 구성된다. 이 요소들은 각각 순서대로 ‘선행지식의 창조적 재발견’, ‘더 나은 삶의 방식의 지향’, ‘해석학적 순환을 통한 나아감의 과정’이라는 상위 요소의 하위 요소들이다. In this inquiry, I decided to observe teachers who had practiced the movement successfully for extended periods of time and their experiences in the process of participation. For this study, I met with three teachers who were leaders in the Haneul chapter of Haessal Educational Research Association. For 18 months, I had multiple conversations with them, made observations on their daily lives, and collected data and documents pertinent to my study. After analyzing all of this information, I noticed the ‘free variation’ that the participants experienced in the process of the Haessal educational movement. The participants chose what they emphasized from Yi, O-deok, explored the approach of the movement, and designed and practiced the various educational activities that supported the movement's beliefs. The design and practice of the activities were especially pertinent to the use of free variation in finding the educational essence of the Haessal educational movement. Subsequently, I analyzed the structures of free variation in the movement. I have come up with six components: gaining of prior knowledge, creative rediscovery, question of being, improvement: other people-oriented life, extension of denotation, and escalation of understanding about connotative attribution. These were subordinate elements from the higher category components: creative rediscovery of prior knowledge, orientation for a better life, and progressive process through the hermeneutical cycle.
