이주난민으로 살아가기에 대한 경험의 탐색: 콜라지의 분석방법에 기초한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

부득이한 상황에 내몰려 친숙한 환경을 떠나 난민이라는 생소한 신분으로 낯선 땅에 발을 딛게 된 이들의 고통과 어려움은 쉽게 이해되기 어렵다. 이 연구에서는 한국에 입국한 난민들의 경험을 살펴보고 특히 한 인간으로서 난민이 되어 산다는 것의 본질적인 의미를 탐색해보고자 한다. 이를 위해 A국가 B민족 출신으로 한국에서 체류하고 있는 난민인정자, 인도적 체류허가자, 난민신청자, 소송중인 난민신청자 중에서 몇 명의 제보자를 선정하여 심층면담을 진행하고 개인적 속성보다는 전체 연구 참여자들의 공통된 속성을 도출하는데 초점을 맞춘 콜라지(Colaizzi)의 분석방법을 기초로 현상학적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과 이들의 ‘난민으로 살아가기’ 경험의 본질은 7개의 주제묶음으로 범주화할 수 있었는데 이를 통해 이들이 한국사회에서 난민으로 살아가면서 중첩된 고통을 겪고 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 하지만 동시에 그들이 피해자나 치유의 대상자로만 스스로를 인식하는데 머물지 않고 ‘감내하는’ 것과 함께 주체적으로 자신의 삶을 '살아내고' 있음을 발견하였다. Studies on refugees who come to Korea, which are rare to begin with, have mostly focused on the overall situation of their influx and trend. However, the difficulties and suffering of those who are forced to relocate to an unfamiliar land due to inevitable circumstances beyond their control cannot be easily comprehended or portrayed. In this study, we wish to understand the experiences of refugees who have come to Korea in order to explore the essential meaning of becoming a refugee and having to live life as one. For this purpose, we conducted in-depth interviews with several refugees from A country and B ethnic group who reside in Korea and who are undergoing various stages of refugee status. We utilized the Colaizzi analysis method in order to conduct phenomenological study that focus on the commonalities of the informants rather than their individual characteristics. The results show that the essence of experiencing 'life as a refugee' comprised of seven thematic categories from which we could infer the multi-layered distress of refugees living in Korea. At the same time, we discovered that these refugees did not languish in their situation as victims or subjects in need of healing, but lived their lives as active and independent persons.
