「파이돈」 관점에서 본 어린이의 죽음 개념

국문 초록

본 연구는 플라톤의 대화편 중 「파이돈」을 선정하여, 그에 나타난 죽음의 개념을 살펴보고, 이를 기초로 하여 어린이의 실제적 죽음 개념의 의미를 분석하고 있다. 나아가 「파이돈」의 관점에서 분석된 어린이의 죽음 개념을 현대 그림책에 제시된 죽음의 의미와 연계하여 재조명함으로써, 토론의 한 방법론으로서 철학적 대화법을 채택할 때 고전의 하나인 「파이돈」이 현대 어린이문학연구의 한 자료로서 역할 할 수 있는 가능성을 밝히고 있다. 죽음 개념과 영혼 불멸에 대해 어린이들과 토론한 결과, 현대를 사는 우리 어린이들은 죽음에 대하여 밝고 담담한 자세를 지니고 있으며, 영혼의 불멸을 전제로 환생과 사후 세계를 수용하고, 순종과 절제, 용기, 진리, 자유, 정의로운 삶에 대한 정향을 나타내고 있음이 확인된다. 어린이들의 이러한 죽음에 대한 이해는 「파이돈」에 제시된 죽음 개념과 맥을 같이 하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study is to analyze a death concept discussed in 「Phaidon」, and children`s real understanding of the concept. In 「Phaidon」, Socrates discusses that "death concept" is related to 3 factors, such as purification of soul, immortality and cultivated life for immortal soul. Contemporarily, children think that death itself is not fearful and the world beyond death, in other words, Heaven or the Land of Happiness is calm, bright and full of pleasures. In fact, 「Phaidon」's aspects and children's thoughts of death are in the similar context. Picture books will help children to think by themselves and to understand the meanings and factors of death concept. Death concept contains some factors, i.e., universality, no-reversion, suspension of function, immortality, ascension, etc. Teachers and parents can apply good picture books and Socratic method - Questioning- to discuss other notions and problems about human life including death concept philosophically with children.
