국문 초록

This research paper aims to uncover the potential of integrating the core values of Saemaul Undong, a rural development movement in South Korea, with traditional African beliefs to enhance community resilience and empowerment. Saemaul Undong's core principles of self-reliance, hard work, and cooperation align well with the emphasis on personal responsibility, communal labor, and social cohesion found in many African belief systems. The study examines how this powerful synergy can address the contemporary challenges facing African communities. The research employs a qualitative methodology, using content analysis to compare a case study of a community development project in Africa with the principles of Saemaul Undong. This approach leverages the strengths of both methods: Saemaul Undong's emphasis on community ownership and self-determination complementing the communal spirit of African traditions and traditional knowledge systems. The findings reveal significant similarities between the two values-based community development methods. These similarities inspire hope for African communities, suggesting that the proven Saemaul Undong approach can serve as a model for promoting self-reliance and preserving ancestral wisdom. The study concludes that integrating these principle can foster sustainable development and resilience in African communities.

영문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국의 농촌 개발 운동인 새마을운동의 핵심 가치를 전통 아프리카 신앙과 통합하여 공동체의 탄력과 역량을 강화할 수 있는 가능성을 밝히는 것이다. 새마을운동의 자조, 근면, 협동의 핵심 원칙은 많은 아프리카 신앙 체계에서 강조하는 개인책임, 공동노동, 사회적 결속과 일치한다. 본 연구의 주요 논지는 긍정적인 사회변화와 지속가능한 발전을 촉발하기 위해 새마을운동의 핵심 가치를 아프리카 전통신앙의 가치와 전략적으로 통합하는 것이다. 그리고 새마을운동의 원칙과 비교하여 아프리카의 한 지역사회개발 프로젝트에 대한 사례 연구의 내용분석을 수행했다. 이 접근방법은 공동체 소유권과 자립을 강조하는 새마을운동의 강점을 아프리카 전통과 지식 체계의 공동체 정신과 결합시켰다. 연구결과는 두 가치 기반 공동체 개발방법 간의 큰 유사성을 보여주었다. 더 나아가, 아프리카에 대한 희망을 고무시키고, 검증된 새마을운동 접근방법이 자립을 촉진하고, 조상들의 지혜를 보존하는 모델로 사용할 수 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구에 제기된 이러한 통합은 아프리카의 풍부한 문화유산을 보존하면서 아프리카 공동체의 번영과 자립의 새로운 차원으로 끌어올리는 잠재력을 가지고 있다.
