국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 의미치료(logotherapy)의 중요한 기법 중 하나인 역설적 의도(paradoxical intention)가 여성과 어떤 상관이 있으며, 또 여성을 위한 기독교상담에서 어떻게 임상적으로 적용될 수 있는가를 탐색하는 것이다. 우선 역설적 의도(PI)를 기독교적 측면에서 이해하고 다루기 위해 성경의 두 인물 에스더와 예수 그리스도를 역설적 의도(PI)의 두 개념인 자기초월(self–transcendence)과 자기부정(self–detachment)에 대입해서 그 둘의 관계성을 나타낸다. 여성들이 자기초월과 자기부정을 통해 어떻게 진정한 자기(true selves)와의 분리가 일어나고 결국 자신의 목소리를 잃는 부정적 결과를 가져오는 반면, 역설적으로, 진정한 자기(true selves)를 잃는 것을 통해 참 자유를 얻고 거기서 진정한 자기(authentic selves)를 발견하는 계기가 되는지를 다룬다. 마지막으로 여성들을 위한 기독교상담과 실질적인 임상 현장에서 역설적 의도(PI)를 보다 효율적으로 적용하기 위해 Neuger의 다섯 가지 R, 즉 기억하기(remembering), 재구성(reframing), 뒤집기(reversing), 재상상하기(re–imagining), 다시 이야기하기(restorying)의 상담기법을 사용하기를 제안한다.

영문 초록

The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate the ways in which the paradoxical intention(PI) technique of logotherapy are being utilized in Christian counseling with women. The two Bible characters, Queen Esther and Jesus Christ, are examined to demonstrate the theological significance of the self–transcendence and self–detachment components of PI. In bringing PI and women into the conversation, a few negative as well as positive influences which PI can have on women are presented. The negatives of PI on women include the danger of severing themselves from their true selves and thus losing their voices, while the positives accentuate the possibilities of PI empowering women to gain more freedom and thus reclaim their authentic selves. Finally this paper offers some practical Christian counseling techniques that can enhance the utility of the paradoxical intention(PI) with women. In doing so, Neuger’s five Rs are introduced and explored, namely remembering, reframing, reversing, re–imagining, and restorying.
