국문 초록

본 연구는 Q방법론의 핵심 절차인 의미통합체(concourse)와 Q표본(Q-set) 구축 과정에 대한 표준화된 가이드라인을 제시한다. Q방법론은 인간의 주관성 탐색에 유용한 방법론이지만, 의미통합체와 Q표본 구축 과정이 연구자 개인의 판단에 의존하거나 구체성이 부족하다는 한계가 지속적으로 지적되어 왔다. 특히 국내 연구는 이러한 방법론적 논의가 미흡한 실정이었다. 이에 본 연구는 국내외 선행연구 검토를 바탕으로, 의미통합체와 Q표본 구축 과정을 체계적 수집, 구조화 및 분류, 체계적 추출, 사전 검토 및 검증의 4단계로 구분하고 각 단계별 구체적 절차와 기준을 명시하였다. 이로써 연구의 재현성과 객관성을 확보하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 의의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존 연구에서 모호했던 의미통합체 및 Q표본 선정 기준을 명확히 제시하여 Q방법론 연구의 타당성과 신뢰성을 제고했다. 둘째, 연구자의 주관적 판단을 최소화하고 객관적이고 과학적인 절차를 강조함으로써, 후속 연구자들이 보다 엄밀한 방법론을 적용할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다. 다만, 본 연구는 이론적 검토에 초점을 두었으며, 제안된 절차의 실증적 효용성을 검증하지 못했다는 한계를 지닌다. 향후 연구에서는 다양한 사례 연구를 통해 본 절차의 효과성과 한계를 실증적으로 검토할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 Q방법론의 학술적 정합성과 실용적 활용도를 높이는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study presents standardized guidelines for the core procedures of Q methodology, namely the construction of the concourse and the Q-set. While Q methodology is a valuable approach for exploring human subjectivity, the processes of concourse building and Q-set construction have long been criticized for relying heavily on researchers’ personal judgment and lacking specificity. In particular, such methodological discussions have been insufficient in domestic research. Accordingly, this study, drawing upon a review of domestic and international literature, divides the processes of concourse building and Q-set construction into four stages—systematic collection, structuring and classification, systematic extraction, and preliminary review and verification—and specifies detailed procedures and criteria for each stage. Through this, the study seeks to secure reproducibility and objectivity in research. The significance of this study is as follows. First, it clarifies the previously ambiguous criteria for concourse and Q-set selection, thereby enhancing the validity and reliability of Q methodology research. Second, by minimizing researchers’ subjective judgment and emphasizing objective and scientific procedures, it establishes a foundation upon which subsequent researchers can apply more rigorous methodologies. However, this study has a limitation in that it focused on theoretical examination and did not empirically test the practical utility of the proposed procedures. Future research should empirically assess the effectiveness and limitations of these procedures through various case studies. It is expected that this study will contribute to enhancing both the academic coherence and the practical applicability of Q methodology.
