국문 초록

본 연구는 러시아어 일반사실적 불완료상(General Factual meaning of the imperfective aspect, 이하 GF)이 단순한 상적 대립을 넘어서, 화용적·담화적 맥락에서 수행하는 기능을 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 전통적으로 GF는 ‘사실의 존재’를 진술하는 용법으로 이해되어 왔으나, 본 연구는 이에 더해 GF가 청자의 예측 가능성을 전제로 정보의 흐름을 조직하고, 배경 지식의 공유를 통해 담화의 정합성을 확보하는 장치로 기능함을 보였다. 이를 위해 ‘예측적 의미 사슬’ 개념을 도입하고, 주화제(topic)와 GF 정보 간의 예측적 연결성, 정보의 분절과 한정성 등의 변수를 중심으로 다양한 예문을 분석하였다. 그 결과, GF는 평서문, 명령문, 부정문 등 다양한 문장에서 주화제-부화제의 조율 및 전환을 가능하게 하는 담화적 장치로 기능하며, 청자의 인지적 예측 능력을 자극하여 정보의 위상을 부드럽게 구성하는 역할을 수행하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 상 체계의 화용적 기능에 대한 논의를 구체화하고, GF를 문법 범주를 넘어 담화 구성 요소로 재조명함으로써 상 이론과 화용론의 접점을 확장하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate the pragmatic and discourse-level functions of the General Factual meaning (GF) of the imperfective aspect in Russian, beyond its conventional role within aspectual oppositions. Traditionally, GF has been understood as expressing the mere existence of a fact, independent of its result. However, this paper demonstrates that GF also functions as a discourse-organizing device, structuring the flow of information based on the presupposition of the hearer's predictive capacity and the sharing of background knowledge, thereby contributing to discourse coherence. To this end, the concept of a “predictive meaning chain” is introduced, and various examples are analyzed in light of factors such as the predictive connection between the topic and GF information, segmentation of information units, and referential definiteness. The analysis reveals that GF plays a key role in coordinating and transitioning between topic and sub-topic across various sentence types—including declaratives, imperatives, and negations. It facilitates a smooth structuring of information by engaging the hearer’s cognitive predictions. This study contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the pragmatic functions of aspect and reinterprets GF as a discourse-structuring device, thus bridging the gap between aspect theory and pragmatics.
