코메니우스의 영성과 인문주의 정신

국문 초록

이 논문은 17세기 유럽에서 활동했던 신학자 요한 아모스 코메니우스가 보여준 그의 영성과 인문주의 정신에 관하여 작성한 글이다. 이 글은 크게 두 가지 주제로 구분된다. 첫째는 코메니우스가 전 생애를 통해 보여준 영성에 대한 것이며, 다른 한 주제는 바로 코메니우스의 인문주의 정신에 관한 것이다. 전자의 “코메니우스가 전 생애를 통하여 보여준 그의 영성”이란 주제는 대체로 코메니우스의 영성으로 일곱 가지 특성을 소개하였다. 첫째, 종교박해의 고난 가운데서도 끝까지 인내로 응답한 코메니우스의 영성을 다루었다. 둘째, 성경 진리에 대한 확신과 그 진리 증언자로서의 영성을 다루었다. 셋째, 그리스도를 통한 구원을 확신한 영성으로서 믿음, 소망, 사랑에 관한 영성이다. 넷째, 범지혜(凡智慧, Pansophia)의 영성이다. 이것은 그의 교육적이며 철학적이며 신학적인 학문 활동을 통하여 밝혀낸 핵심사상이다. 특히 교육(학문)과 자연과학과 정치와 종교를 하나님 중심으로 연결되게 한 그의 기독교 철학이었다. 다섯째, 그리스도의 통치가 땅에서 실현되기를 희망한 천년왕국에 대한 종말론적 영성이다. 이것은 인간의 땅에서의 삶과 교회의 삶이 이원적인 대립 관계가 아니라, 그리스도를 통하여 약속된 천년왕국을 믿음으로 준비하는 일과 연관된 것임을 깨우치고, 영생의 소망으로 인간의 땅(현재)의 삶을 책임있게 살도록 역동성을 불어넣어 주는 영성이었다. 여섯째는 교회의 공동체성과 교회 연합의 영성에 관한 것이다. 일곱째로는 경건주의적인 영성을 소개하였다. 이러한 코메니우스의 다양한 영성의 모습은 오늘날 다변적인 가치이해의 상충과 대립으로 근본을 상실하여 되돌아가야 할 분명한 인생의 방향과 올바른 영성을 찾는 일에 크게 기여하리라 생각한다. 둘째 주제로 다룬 것은 코메니우스의 인문주의 정신에 관한 것이다. 여기서 필자는 네 가지 코메니우스가 역시 전 생애를 통하여 보여준 인문주의 정신의 독특성을 네 가지로 소개하였다. 첫째는 코메니우스의 박애주의 정신이며, 둘째는 인간성 회복을 지향한 코메니우스 교육의 정신이며, 셋째는 코메니우스의 세계개혁에 대한 정신이며, 넷째는 코메니우스의 평화정신이다. 생각하면 코메니우스는 단순히 인간만을 중요하게 생각하는 하나님 없는 인문주의자는 아니었다. 그러나 그는 17세기 유럽에서 일어난 새로운 인문주의적인 사상을 섭렵하여, 철저하게 성경 중심적인 하나님이 그리스도를 통하여 나타낸 사랑을 성령의 은혜 안에서 경험하며 나누는 인간애를 실천하며, 그리스도 안에서 참된 인간, 즉 신-형상의 모습으로 성숙 되는 인문교육과 인간의 사랑과 세계의 변화와 평화실현의 꿈을 실현하도록 힘썼던 휴매니스트였다고 할 것이다. 이러한 코메니우스가 보여준 영성과 인문주의 정신은 지금 전 세계가 코로나19 판데믹으로 고통받는 시련의 위기 가운데서 여전히 우리를 통하여 실현되어야 할 현실성을 지닌 가치들이라고 생각한다. 우리 모두 그의 영성과 인문주의 정신을 본받게 되기를 염원한다.

영문 초록

This thesis was written by John Amos Comenius, a theologian who was active in Europe in the 17th century, on his spirituality and the spirit of humanism. This article is divided into two main topics. First, it is the title of the spirituality that Comenius showed throughout his life, and the other theme is the humanistic spirit of The former theme of “Comenius’s spirituality demonstrated throughout his entire life” is the spirituality of Comenius, which introduces seven characteristics. First, the spirituality of Comenius, who responded with patience to the end even in the midst of the suffering of religious persecution, was dealt with. Second, it dealt with the conviction of the truth of the Bible and the spirituality as a witness of the truth. Third, it is about faith, hope, and love as spirituality assured of salvation through Christ. Fourth, it is the spirituality of Pansophia. This is a core idea uncovered through his educational, philosophical and theological activities. In particular, it was his Christian philosophy that brought education (academic), natural science, politics, and religion to the center of God. Fifth, it is the eschatological spirituality of the Millennium Kingdom, which hoped to realize Christ’s reign on earth. This is to realize that life in the human earth and the life of the church are not a dual opposition, but are related to the preparation of the millennial kingdom promised through Christ by faith, and take responsibility for the life of the human earth (present) with the hope of eternal life. It was a spirituality that inspires dynamism to live well. The sixth is about the communality of the church and the spirituality of church unity. The seventh is the spirituality of pietism. I think that Comenius’ diverse spirituality will greatly contribute to finding the clear direction of life and the right spirituality to return by losing its fundamentals due to the conflict and confrontation of today’s multilateral value understanding. The second topic was about Comenius’ humanistic spirit. Here, I have introduced four unique characteristics of the humanistic spirit that the four Comenius also showed throughout his life. First, it is the spirit of Comenius’ philanthropy, second, it is the spirit of Comenius education aimed at restoring humanity, third, it is the spirit of Comenius’ world reform, and the fourth is the spirit of Comenius’ peace. If you think about it, Comenius wasn’t just a humanist without God who values only humans. However, he took up the new humanistic ideas that took place in Europe in the 17th century, and practiced the human love of experiencing and sharing the love that God expressed through Christ, which was thoroughly biblical, in the grace of the Holy Spirit. It can be said that it was a humanities education that matured with humanity, human love, world change, and humanity that worked hard to realize the dream of realizing peace. I think that the spirituality and humanistic spirit that Comenius has shown are values with realism that must still be realized through us in the midst of the ordeal crisis the world is suffering from the Corona 19 pandemic. We all wish to imitate his spirituality and humanistic spirit.
