국문 초록

This study analyzes the research trends of 211 papers on the 5·18 Democratization Movement from 2010 to 2022, offering insights into research directions and policy recommendations. From 2010 to 2014, fewer than 10 studies were conducted annually, but since 2017, there has been an increase, with 62 papers published during conservative governments and 149 during progressive governments. The most common research methods were qualitative (111 papers), literature review (67 papers), oral history (13 papers), quantitative (11 papers), and comparative (6 papers). Most research was in social sciences. The study suggests the need for research on citizen rights, survivors, and families of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, and a variety of research methods. This is the first study to analyze research trends on the 5·18 Democratization Movement. Future research should focus on detailed content analysis, database development, and archival work.
