국문 초록

Rapid urbanization has intensified mental health issues such as stress, depression, and anxiety among urban residents. Urban parks and green spaces have been proposed as effective interventions to alleviate these problems. Employing a realist review methodology, this study analyzed how and under what contexts urban park infrastructure positively impacts residents’ mental health, focusing on Context- Mechanism-Outcome (CMO) relationships. Relevant literature was reviewed from major academic databases, and a detailed program theory was developed through case studies of Cheonggyecheon (Seoul), the High Line (New York), and Green Gym (UK). Six key mechanisms—nature exposure, social interaction, physical activity opportunities, perceived safety, cultural programs, and environmental improvements—were identified. These mechanisms interacted significantly with contextual factors such as population density, safety, and policy support, thereby influencing mental health outcomes. The findings highlight the necessity of context-sensitive and multi-dimensional strategies beyond merely expanding park areas to effectively enhance urban mental health.
