국문 초록

이 논문은 보글러가 창안한 12단계 영웅의 여정을 드라마 <황진이>의 서사에 적용시켜 분석한 글이다. 조지프 캠벨은 전 세계의 설화를 분석하면서, 영웅의 이야기에는 17단계를 거치는 원형적인 서사구조가 존재한다고 밝혔다. 할리우드의 각본가인 크리스토퍼 보글러는 조지프 캠벨의 이러한 연구에 영감을 받아 계승하여 17단계의 영웅의 여정을 12단계로 변개하였다. 그가 창안한12단계의 영웅의 여정은 영화나 드라마의 주인공이 겪는 서사 전개 과정이다. 궁극적으로 시청자는 텍스트의 영웅 즉, 주인공이 가는 여정에 함께 함으로써 이야기에 몰입하게 되는 것이다. 현재 창작자들은 그가 창안한 이 유용한서사 전개의 틀을 시나리오 작법에 활용하고 있다. 영화와 텔레비전 투자 배급사의 임원, 프로듀서, 감독들도 이 책이 자신들의 프로젝트에 영향을 미쳤고스토리가 지닌 문제점을 해결하는 데 도움을 줬다고 고백하고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 12단계의 영웅의 여정을 드라마 <황진이>를 분석하는데 활용하였다. 본 드라마에서 진이가 영웅일 수밖에 없는 면모에 주목하고, 그가 겪는 사건과 인물, 시련과 극복, 성장과 궁극적 발전 요소를 살펴보았다. 드라마 <황진이>는 보글러가 창안한 12단계의 영웅의 여정에 꼭 들어맞는 서사 전개 과정을 보여주고 있다. 드라마 <황진이>의 성공 요인은 여러가지가 있을 수 있지만, 궁극적으로 드라마틱한 이야기 전개와 탄탄한 구성력이 가장 큰 요소일 수밖에 없음은 부인할 수 없다. 이를 통해 우리 고전 작품의 인문콘텐츠화에 있어 그 서사 전개 과정을 구성함에 있어 보글러의 12단계 영웅의 여정은 매우 유용한 이야기 골격을 제시하고 있다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the 12-step hero's journey created by Vogler by applying it to the narrative of the drama . Joseph Campbell analyzed tales from around the world and revealed that the hero's story has a circular narrative structure that goes through 17 stages. Hollywood screenwriter Christopher Vogler was inspired by Joseph Campbell's research and changed the hero's journey from 17 stages to 12 stages. The 12-step hero's journey he created is the narrative development process that the main character of a movie or drama goes through. Ultimately, the viewer becomes immersed in the story by accompanying the hero of the text, or main character, on his or her journey. Currently, creators are using this useful narrative development framework he created in their scenario writing. Film and television investment and distribution executives, producers and directors have also confessed that the book influenced their projects and helped them solve problems with their stories. In this paper, these 12 stages of the hero's journey were used to analyze the drama . In this drama, we focused on Jin-i's inevitability as a hero and looked at the events and characters he experiences, his trials and overcomings, and his growth and ultimate development elements. The drama shows a narrative development process that perfectly fits the 12-step hero's journey created by Vogler. There may be many reasons for the success of the drama , but ultimately, it cannot be denied that dramatic story development and solid composition are the biggest factors. Through this, it can be said that Vogler's 12-step hero's journey presents a very useful story framework in constructing the narrative development process in converting our classic works into humanities content.
