국문 초록

본 연구는 아동기 학대를 경험한 중년 남성의 치유과정을 보여주는 모래놀이치료 사례연구이다. 중년의 내담자는 아동기 학대로 인해 관계의 어려움, 폭력, 부정적으로 자기 인식 등의 어려움을 갖고 있었다. 내담자의 무의식적 상처와 감정은 아직 내담자의 삶에서 실현되지 않은 인격의 긍정적인 부분을 나타내며, 이는 내적으로 미분화된 그림자와 여성적 원리의 형태로 존재했다. 모래놀이치료는 내담자가 외상적, 무의식적 상처와 감정을 상징적으로 표현할 수 있게 하고 삶으로 실현할 수 있게 돕는 심리치료 접근이다. 모래놀이치료 과정에서 내담자는 부정적인 자기 인식에 가려져 있던 그리고 그림자로만 존재했던 내면의 긍정적인 측면을 발견하고 자신을 삶과 정체성을 발견하였다. 내담자는 피할 수 없는 ‘학대 생존자’로서의 자신을 받아들였고 ‘폭력 가해자’로서 책임성도 성찰하게 되었다. 특히, 마지막 회기에서 내담자는 “난 아직 실패한 인생이 아니고, 다시는 이런 일로 당신을 만나지 않을 것”이라는 표현을 함으로써 새로운 삶의 목적과 앞으로 자신이 삶을 소중히 여기겠다는 의지를 표현했다. 이 표현은 치료자와 함께한 여정에 대한 감사와 더불어, 새롭게 찾은 삶의 의미와 다짐을 반영하는 ‘선언’이었다. 결론적으로, 아동기 학대 외상이 남성의 삶에 미치는 영향과 모래놀이치료가 아동기 학대피해로부터 정체성 회복과 자기인식 변화에 미치는 영향을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

This study explores the healing process of a middle-aged male survivor of childhood abuse through Sandplay therapy. Initially, the client is unaware of how his violent childhood environment has affected his current interpersonal relationships and self-awareness. However, through therapy, he gradually begins to recognize these impacts. Sandplay therapy allows clients to symbolically express their unconscious wounds and emotions. The client’s unconscious wounds and emotions represent positive aspects of himself not yet realized in his life, existing internally in undifferentiated forms of the shadow and the feminine principle. This paper interprets the symbols related to the client’s inner awareness through Carl Jung’s concepts of the “shadow” and “anima.” Throughout the therapeutic process, the client experiences growth by discovering the positive aspects of himself that has been concealed by his negative aspects. He also accepts his identity as a “survivor of abuse” and also reflects on his responsibility as a “perpetrator of abuse” as well. In the final session, he expresses a new sense of purpose in life, stating, “My life is not yet a failure, and I will never meet you again because of these issues.” This remark reflects his newfound meaning and commitment to caring for his life moving forward, while also expressing gratitude to the therapist for their shared journey. This study aims to show how Sandplay therapy supports identity restoration and the improvement of interpersonal relationships for adult male survivors of childhood abuse.
