본 논문은 금융화 관점에서 영화 산업의 진화를 다섯 단계로 나누어 분석한다. 1900년대부터 1940년대까지는 초기 스튜디오 지배와 외부 금융 의존 최소화, 1950년대부터1970년대는 독립 자금 조달의 부상, 1980년대부터 1990년대는 블록버스터 시대와 기업소유화, 2000년대는 세계화와 구조적 금융 모델이 특징이다. 2010년대 이후 스트리밍시대는 초금융화, 데이터 기반 콘텐츠 제작, 대규모 플랫폼 투자가 주요 요소다. 또한 토큰화 및 분산형 영화 금융과 같은 미래 가능성도 논의된다. 주요 경향으로는 기관투자 증가, 슬레이트 금융의 부상, 인수합병, 플랫폼 전략, 그리고 지적재산(IP)의 자산화가 포함된다. 이러한 금융적 요인은 창작 과정에 영향을 미치며, 영화 제작 의사결정을 지배하고 있다. 논문은 국가와 장르를 초월한 금융 메커니즘-기관투자, 구조적 금융, 데이터 기반 콘텐츠 전략-이 영화 산업을 재구성했다고 본다. 특히 미국 주요 스튜디오와 같은 대규모 자본 집약적 부문이 더 큰 영향을 받았으나, 보편적 경향에 초점을 맞추어 영화 산업 금융화의 일관된 틀을 제공한다. 이를 통해 전 세계적으로 공유된 금융 구조와 투자자 우선순위가 영화 제작과 배급에 미친 영향을 분석하며, 지역적 차이에도 적용 가능한 통찰을 제시한다

영문 초록

This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the film industry’s evolution through the lens of financialization. It outlines five distinct stages of financ- ialization, from the early studio dominance with minimal external financing (1900s~1940s), through the rise of independent financing (1950s~1970s), the blockbuster era and corporate ownership (1980s~1990s), to the globalization and structured finance models of the 2000s. The current streaming era (2010s-mid~2020s) is defined by hyper-financialization, data-driven content creation, and large-scale investments by streaming platforms. It also speculates on future developments like tokenization and decentralized film financing. Key trends include increased institutional investment, the rise of slate financing, mergers and acquisitions, platform, and the prioritization of intellectual property (IP) as a long-term asset class. The paper highlights the implications of these trends on the creative process, emphasizing how financial factors now dominate decision-making in film production. The paper takes a generalized approach to the financialization of the film industry, as core financial mechanisms-such as institutional investment, structured financing, and data-driven content strategies-have universally reshaped the industry, regardless of national or genre-specific differences. While certain sectors, like major U.S. studios, are more prominently impacted by financialization due to their scale and capital demands, this focus on overarching trends allows for a cohesive framework to capture the industry’s financial evolution as a whole.
