국문 초록

Purpose: Sarcopenia is a significant factor affecting mortality in older adults, and in the case of older women, the risk of sarcopenia increases rapidly due to hormonal changes after menopause. This study was conducted to identify the risk factors of low muscle mass among community-dwelling older adult women in Korea. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design and secondary data analysis from the 9th (2022) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. 657 community-dwelling older women aged 65 years and older were included in the analysis. To identify the risk factors of low muscle mass among older women, multiple logistic regression analysis was performed, and a complex sample design analysis method was used. Results: The proportion of participants with low muscle mass was 29.5%. According to the multiple logistic regression analysis, the factors associated with low muscle mass among older women were age (OR 1.07), smoking (OR 10.86), and protein intake (OR 0.99). In other words, the risk of low muscle mass in older women increases with older age, smoking, and low protein intake. Conclusion: This study suggests risk factors for low muscle mass among community-dwelling older women. To prevent and improve low muscle mass in older women, it is necessary to provide nutritional improvement and smoking interventions.
