주의 기반 관점(Attention-Based View) 조직 연구의 동향

국문 초록

William Ocasio(1997; 2011)는 카네기 학파를 계승하여 ‘기업에 대한 주의 기반 관점(attentionbased view of the firm)’을 제시하며, 조직의 의사결정에서 제한된 주의 자원의 중요성을 강조하였다. 주의 기반 관점은 다양한 주제와 연구 분야로 확장되고 있으며, 주의 선행요인과 효과성에 관한연구가 진행되었다. 하지만 그동안의 선행연구는 주의 기반 관점으로 연구할 수 있는 다양한 영역 중일부만 다루고 있다는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 주의 형성 과정에서 조직적·개인적 요인의 영향을 통합적인 관점에서 살펴보기 위해 주의 선행요인으로서 ‘조직의 환경적 맥락, 조직 구조 및 상황, 의사결정자 개인 특성, 요인 간 상호작용’으로 구분된 새로운 개념적 틀을 제시하고, 이를 바탕으로주의 기반 관점을 적용한 기존 연구를 정리하며 향후 연구과제를 제시한다. 이를 위해 1997년부터2024년 4월까지 국내·외 인사관리/조직이론 분야 주요 학술지에 게재된 22편의 논문을 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 이론적·실무적 시사점과 한계점을 토론하였다.

영문 초록

William Ocasio(1997; 2011) extended the legacy of the Carnegie School by introducing the ‘attention-based view of the firm’, which underscores the critical role of limited attention resources in rational organizational decision-making. The attention-based view has rapidly proliferated across diverse topics and research domains. However, extant studies have examined a limited scope of potential research areas within this perspective. This study aims to investigate the influence of organizational and individual factors on the formation of organizational attention from an integrative perspective. We propose a novel conceptual framework, which categorizes the antecedents of organizational attention into the environmental context of the organization, organizational structure and situation, characteristics of decisionmakers, and the interactions among these factors. Utilizing this framework, we review 22 articles published from 1997 through April 2024 in both domestic and international journals specializing in human resources management and organizational theory. Based on this review, we discuss the theoretical and practical contributions of this study, as well as its limitations.
