국문 초록

이 글은 일본 고전문학 연구자들에게 조선시대 자만시를 소개하기 위해 자만시의 창작 목적과 특성을 살핀 것이다. 자만시를 쓰는 가장 두드러진 이유론 자기 정당화의 욕구, 증언의 욕구, 자기표현의 욕구를 들 수 있다. 자기표현의 욕구는 남들이 알지 못하는 자신의 진면목을 표현하는 것을 목표로 한다는 점에서 자전적 글쓰기 방식으로서 주목할 만하다. 자만시의 자아는 살아있는 나와 죽은 나라는 이중성을 띤다. 魏晉南北朝시기 挽歌詩 문체적 특성으로 인해 촉발된 이런 특성은 한편으로 자아의 혼성(hybrid)도 유발하게 된다. 자만시에 드러나는 가공의 나, 성격이 다른 1인칭의 뒤섞임, 그리고 자신의 대상화(2인칭과 3인칭) 등은 전지적인 관점에서 자신의 정체성을 새로운 방식으로 탐색하는 동시에 構築하고 있다고 평가할 수 있다. 자만시를 쓰려는 욕구는 한편으로 “나는 어떤 사람인가?”라는 질문과 긴밀하게 연관되어 있다. 그러므로 자만시를 쓰는 것은 자신만의 특별한 경험을 가지고 자기 정체성을 탐색 혹은 구축하면서 자만시를 쓰는 행위인 글쓰기의 문제를 성찰하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 때문에 자만시에서 제기되는 자기 정체성의 문제는 글쓰기를 통해 재구성되는 것이란 점에서 ‘시적 정체성’이라는 성격을 동시에 가지게 된다. 자만시는 전통문학에서 보기 드문 시를 통한 자기 정체성의 탐색과 구축이라는 점에서 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

This article explains the purpose and characteristics of self-elegy written in Joseon Dynasty. The genre had been mainly composed in the aspects of self justification, witness or self-expression. The latter is especially worth noticing because it reveals poet’s inner world, and thus the style can be classified as a branch of biographic writing. The dualistic aspect of self-elegy where an alive poet sings the dead “me”, originated from the problematic style of elegy in Wei-Jin-Nan-Bei-Chao(魏晋南北朝) Period, also creates hybrid alter ego. In other words, The omniscient poetic identity is established in the course of creating multiple egos including a poet, blended voices of the other selves, objectifying of the poet himself, etc. in the style. Since the drive of writing self-elegy is closely linked to the question of who I am, the act of composing self-elegy is to reflect the relationship between writing and identity. The identity here is poetic identity at the same time because it is constructed through writing. Considering classical literature rarely expresses the theme of the author’s identity, pursuit of self in self-elegy is a distinct phase in traditional poetry.
