국문 초록

이 글은 리쾨르의 번역론에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 타문화의 낯섦을 함축한 관용어 번역에서 언어적 환대가 번역전략으로 가질 수 있는 의미와 지향점을 모옌의 <紅高梁家族>에서 발췌한 관용어 번역을 대상으로 자국화와 이국화 번역방식 간 비교를 통해 모색하였다. 리쾨르의 언어적 환대는 번역과정 내내 ‘낯섦’으로부터의 시련을 마주한 번역자가 저자와 독자 모두를 배신하지 않고 적절한 균형점을 찾아갈 수 있는 근거를 번역철학적 관점에서 제시하고 있다. 회상의 작업을 통해 번역자는 자신이 앓고 있는 번역의 욕망이 현실에서는 불가능한 완벽한 번역을 추구하는 자세에서 나옴을 직시하고, 애도의 작업을 통해 완전한 등가라는 집착에서 벗어나 모국어의 공간에서 타자의 언어와 문화를 맞아들이는 언어적 환대를 준비해야 한다. 이는 모국어의 우월성을 포기하고 타자를 동등하게 받아들이는 개방적 전략이며, 동시에 모국어가 가지는 고유함을 포기하지 않는 주체적 전략이다. 무엇보다 시대와 환경에 따른 번역자의 다양한 해석이 가능함을 인정하고 이를 비판적으로 사유함으로써 완벽한 합치가 불가능함에도 끊임없이 나아가는 번역활동의 전략이다.

영문 초록

This paper, based on the understanding of Paul Ricoeur’s interpretation theory, investigates the meaning of linguistic hospitality as translation strategy on heterogeneity by comparing between foreignization and domestication. Recoeur provides the translator with the philosophical basis on translation, helping them to escape from the matter of treachery between author and reader, and to search for the solution of relevant balanced translation strategy. Translation is required not only between different languages, but also within the same language. Here, the translator meets hermeneutics. The recollection is the work that helps the translator to recognize his or her desire to achieve the complete translation. Then the work of condolences stops the translator from clinging to the complete equivalence between the two texts. Through these processes, the translator would like to meet the guest eventually in his or her home space. Translation can be the good medium for the understanding of interculturality and supply ethical resources for the reflection on the desirable relationship between the two cultures. The linguistic hospitality is an open strategy that gives up the superiority over the native language, while not renouncing the specificity of mother language. Furthermore, it is the strategy that goes to the incomplete equivalence ceaselessly by admitting and accepting critically various version on the same source text
