영문 초록

One of the foremost directors of the French silent cinema, Epstein is also a cinematic theorist whose writing such as Ecrits sur le cinema 1, 2 examined the philosophical impact of film. For Epstein, cinematographic images are the intimate events of universal becoming and the operations of an art that restores to the event of the world power they had been deprived of by the opaque screen of human brain. In Intelligence of Machine(1946), Epstein claims that the concept of continuity in cinema is completely compatible with the concept of discontinuity. The concept of continuit/discontinuity is consubstantial with cinema as un art and an object of thought.
