영문 초록

This study's aim is to analyse , as the representative text in the level of esthetic image effects composed of the face close up shots, the articulated body images and the frame inner space articulation. This aim is carried out by the image analysis in the visual sign system using semiological methodology. And this study was motivated by the power of attraction regarding very exquisitly constructed space mise-en-scene. Above all the detail image representation, the face close up shots and the articulated body images are the main images through the text which compress the usual narrative. That shows the trace of the premier film texts composed of tableau style narrative. Especially the variable figures of face close up shots of Jeanne d'Arc (Faconetti) reveal profound esthetic as well as meangful visual signification; in other words that signifies human being's inside existence which has eyes of photogenic level. On the enonciation of images expression, the articulated body images of judges are related to travelling movement of camera and that makes their present existence held down by a repressive absent upper space in the frame. This sort of space composition are frequently used through the court sequence as well as the prison visit sequence. and that present their being as the internal prisoner closed by the religious fervor being contrasted with Jeanne d'Arc's close up shots which appear alternatly dominating the whole inner space of the frame. In that context, Jeanne d'Arc's close up shots are becoming the frame it self with the iris effet,Another space mise-en-scene effect is based on the similar form as round form from the prison's door and that of court to judges' hair style, tonsured head form. This kind of doubled, sometimes multiple round form makes their existence as suppressed being through visual sign system on the basis of material signification. Sometimes the judges are situated in the center of frame space, Nevertheless their images are surrounded by the relatively big void edge of frame space, and then their power shrivels up instead of extend. At the sequence in the burning ritual, mass images in the beginning part are also held down by a repressive absent upper space in the frame as the judges images in the court and prison visit. But the time goes by and the burning process continues and then frame space composition begins to transit. changing their being's position without the upper side void space like the shots of Jeanne d'Arc. Analysing the visual sign image system in this text, one admits deeply the black and white film's image esthetics even though the express elements were very limited focusing the strong visual perception. That effects very deep and meaningful signification of images as well as film watching jouissance.
