국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 <어둠 속의 댄서>에서 보여주는 셀마의 일곱 가지 환상과 마지막 앞의 노래에 초점을 맞추어 그것을 정신분석적으로 분석하기 위함이다. 영화에서 셀마는 언제나 현실의 소리가 촉발작용을 하여 환상으로 빠져든다. 첫 번째 환상에서는 기계들이 덜컹거리는 소리가 셀마에게는 음악의 리듬으로들리면서 기계음이 노동요(勞動謠)로 승화된다. 두 번째 환상에서는 셀마가 환상을통해 어떤 한계도 없이 모든 것을 무궁무진하게 볼 수 있고 더 풍요롭게 상상할 수있음을 보여준다. 세 번째 환상에서는 빌과 그의 아내 린다, 그리고 셀마의 아들인진이 등장하여 셀마를 위로해주고 셀마가 그들로부터 듣고 싶어하는 말을 그들이해준다. 셀마가 자기 자신의 욕망의 메시지를 타자로부터 거꾸로 된 환상의 형태로되돌려받는다는 것을 보여준다. 그리고 ‘눈물 한 방울이 떨어지는 시간. 심장이 한 번뛰는 시간. 뱀이 허물을 벗는 시간. 장미에 가시가 돋는 시간’이라는 가사를 통해빌을 죽인 셀마 자신을 용서하는 심리 단계를 4단계로 표현한다. 네 번째 환상에서는 자신이 뮤지컬에 빠져드는 이유는 뮤지컬 속에 자신을 매혹시키는 그 누군가가있다고 노래한다. 다섯 번째 환상에서는 법정에서 환상속의 올드리치 노비에와 함께 노래와 춤을 춘다. 환상 속의 올드리치 노비는 셀마의 뮤지컬 속에 있으면서 그녀를 매혹시키는 그 누군가에 가장 가까운 환상적 대상이다. 여섯 번째 환상에서는 셀마가 수감된 감옥의 감방에서 자신이 그리워하는 따뜻한 체코의 고향 집 풍경이 그려진다. 일곱 번째 환상은 교도관 브렌다의 도움을 받아 사형집행장까지의107걸음이 107 걸음 행진곡으로 전환된다. 셀마가 죽기 직전에 부르는 노래는 죽음의 고통을 예술로 승화하는 노래다. 셀마가 부르는 마지막 노래는 셀마에서 진으로, 그리고 진에서 그의 자식으로 이어지는 생명과 사랑의 사슬 역할을 한다. 그리하여 셀마가 죽기 전에 부르는 마지막 앞의 노래는 ‘백조의 노래’가 된다. <어둠 속의 댄서>는 현실의 고단한 삶을 벗어나기 위해 뮤지컬 형식의 환상에의존하는 셀마라는 이름의 한 여인을 통해 환상의 힘이 얼마나 큰지를 생생하게보여주고 있다. 그녀가 꿈꾸는 일곱 개의 환상은 공통적으로 고통스러운 현실로부터 벗어나려는 동일한 욕망을 드러내고 있다. 셀마는 환상을 통해 삶의 고통을극복하고 뮤지컬의 환상을 꿈꾸면서 승화의 길로 나아간다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the seven fantasies and the second to last song in . In the film, noises work as a trigger when Selma indulges in her fantasy. In the first fantasy, the clatter of machines which sounds like a rhythm of music for Selma is sublimated into a labor song. In the second fantasy, it is shown that Selma can see anything that she wants to see through fantasy and imagine what she sees more abundantly, without any limitations. In other words, her desire to be able to see is revealed. In the third fantasy, Bill, his wife, and Jin who is Selma’s son appear and each of them consoles Selma. They tell Selma what she wants to hear from them. It means that she gets back the message of her own desire from others in the inverted form in her fantasy. It is evident in her songs that she forgives herself for killing Bill. Her psychology is expressed in four stages through beautiful lyrics, which are ‘Time for a Tear to Drop’, ‘Time for Your Heart to Beat Once’, ‘Time for Roses to Get Thorns’ ‘Time for a Snake to Shed its Skin.’ In the fourth fantasy, it is revealed that there is someone who fascinates her in the musical-style fantasy and that it is the reason why she indulges herself in musical. In the fifth fantasy, she sings and dances with Oldrich Novi whom she imagines wonderful in her fantasy. Oldrich Novi in her fantasy is an object who is the closest to the one who fascinates her in her psychological world. In the sixth fantasy, the scenery of Selma’s hometown in the Czech Republic is warmly depicted which she misses most while in prison. In the seventh fantasy, the 107 steps toward the execution ground turn into a march song while Selma walks with the help of a prison guard, Branda. Selma sings a song right before her death, in which the suffering of death is sublimated into art. The last song Selma sings plays a role as a chain of life and love which is supposed to be connected from Selma to Jin, from Jin to his offspring. The song right before the last song which Selma sings becomes ‘a swan song’. The film vividly shows how great the power of fantasy is through a woman named Selma, who relies on musical-style fantasies in order to endure her harsh life of reality. The seven fantasies which she dreams reveal her desire of avoiding painful life in common. She overcomes the pain of life and moves on to sublimation through musicals in fantasy.
