本稿は｢平安王朝｣と｢香｣という観点から、清少納言が捉える平安朝の香文化について検討し、『枕草子』に登場する香りの種々相を探ってみる試みである。『源氏物語』と比べてみたら、清少納言は自然風物に対して、あれほど鋭敏な観察力の持ち主であったにも関わらず、四季折々の薫物の具体的な名前を記すことなく、香りの演出される様々な情景や雰囲気を描くことに集中している。『枕草子』において、香りとは｢描く｣対象ではなく、｢楽しむ｣対象であった。ただ｢心にくき｣香りがあれば、それをその場で楽しむことに重点がおかれていたのである。清少納言の関心はその香りが演出される様々な情景や雰囲気に向けられていたのである。 また、空気を浄化する空薫物の他にも、｢衣｣にためしめた香りや｢紙｣に染み込んだ香りにも清少納言ならではの繊細な感覚が目立つ。｢七月ばかり、いみじう暑ければ｣段では、香りをよくたきしめた｢紙｣について称賛する。男から女のもとに送られた後朝の文は｢香の紙｣に書かれており、｢丁子の香り｣のする恋文であった。清少納言は消息の色彩美とともに、それに伴う｢香り｣にも繊細な注意をはらい、紙に染み込んでいる丁子の微かな香りの臭覚美を描いているのである。

영문 초록

This article is an attempt to examine the incense culture of the Heian period captured by Sei Shonagon from the perspective of “Heian dynasty” and “Ko” and explore various aspects of the fragrance that appears in Makuranosousi. First of all, Makuranosousi focuses on drawing various scenes and atmosphere in which the scent is produced without mentioning the specific name of the scent of each season. In any case, the type of smoked food that appears in Makuranosousi and “Kinokimono” are presumed to be “Kayo” or “Kurobo.” Due to the fragrance, the incense of Lieutenant General Tsai Shin must have given off a more wonderful scent in the long rain. In addition to the air freshener, the delicate sense unique to Sei Shonagon stands out in the scent of “clothes” and the scent soaked in “paper.” In the section “If it’s only July, it’s very hot,” people praise the fragrant paper. The post-morning text sent by a man to a woman was written on “Ko no kami” (paper of incense), and it was a love text with the “scent of choko.” Along with the color beauty of the letter, she paid close attention to the accompanying “scent” and depicted the subtle scent of the choko soaked in the paper.
