디자인 요소·속성 항목에 따른 어포던스 유형과 중요도

국문 초록

사물인터넷으로 대변되는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅, 앰비언트 환경의 구축은 사용자의 온오프라인 통합경험의 중요성의 증가를 예고하고 이 같은 변화는 사용자에게 일상의 언제 어디서든 필요한, 정확한 지원을 위한 설득기술 개입을 의미한다. 이에 자연스러운 사용자 행동유도를 위한 방법모색의 차원에서 본 연구의 목적은 디자인요소와 속성에 내재된 관련성이 높은 어포던스 유형과 해당 요소·속성 항목의 중요도를 밝히는데 있다. 이를 위해 어포던스 관련 다양한 분야에서 활동하는 어포던스 전문가 6명에 대한 초점집단 인터뷰를 통해 어포던스 분류, 스마트 폰의 UI 디자인 요소·속성에 등을 논의하고 델파이조사에 사용할 설문지를 개발했다. 이후 다학제적 관점에서 29명의 어포던스 전문가 패널을 구성하고 이들을 대상으로 어포던스 유형과 디자인요소·속성에 대한 전문가 델파이 조사를 실시했다. 디자인요소와 속성에 의한 항목별 대표 어포던스 유형과 중요도 평가결과에서 흥미로운 점은 다음과 같다. 대다수의 디자인요소·속성 항목들은 인지적 어포던스, 감각적 어포던스, 물리적 어포던스 중 2-3개의 대표 어포던스 유형을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 단일한 어포던스 유형을 갖는 것으로 나타난 디자인요소·속성 항목의 경우, 해당 모든 항목의 어포던스 중요도가 평균 중요도 보다 낮은 것으로 평가되었다. 이것은 디자인요소·속성 항목과 어포던스 유형은 일 대 일 대응관계 보다는 일 대 다수의 관계일 때, 어포던스의 상대성과 상보적 특성을 바탕으로 사용자에게 행동기회 제공의 가능성을 높임으로써, 보다 효과적으로 사용자를 지원할 수 있는 가능성을 발견한 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 따라서 향후에는 서로 다른 특성의 어포던스 양립이 일반사용자집단에서도 동일하게 유효한지의 여부, 그러한 양립을 통해 증가되는 상보성의 정도, 상보성의 패턴 등을 실험을 통해 보다 명확하게 확인해 볼 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Ubiquitous computing and ambient environment based on IOT technology predict growing importance of integrated user experience by connecting online and offline experience. This environmental change requires persuasive intervention to provide users necessary, exact supports wherever and whenever they are during their day-to-day lives. Thus, to seek to find a way of guide users’ actions intended, which is affordance, this study aims at specifying a certain affordance type associated with design elements and properties and investigating its importance. To accomplish the goal, this study employed focus group interviews with 6 affordance professional working in different domains such as industrial · visual design, education, and computer science and the Delphi method with a panel of 29 affodance experts in those areas. The interesting finding from the research was as follows; most items of combining design elements and properties had 2-3 affordance types among cognitive, sensory, and physical affordances and rest of them having a affordance type had relatively lower importance points than average points. It can be interpreted that one to many relationship, rather than one to one, between the combination items and the affordance type, may have higher action possibilities, which is better affordance, based on its’ relationality and complementarity. This paper only focused on investigating which affordance type a design element and property is associated with affordance experts. As future work, it could be interesting to study the problems from heavy or light users’ perspectives. Another set of features would be interesting to analyse like those that are amount of importance of relationality, and, if any, pattern of complementarity.
