柳成龍의 『亂後雜錄』 저술과 史學史的 의의

국문 초록

조선사편수회는 『朝鮮史』를 간행하는 과정에서 중요한 사료임에도잘 알려지지 않은 것들을 모아 『朝鮮史料叢刊』으로 간행하였다. 「난후잡록」 은 『조선사료총간』 권9에 수록되어 영인·간행되었다. 「난후잡록」은 2책의 필록본으로 유성룡이 가장 먼저 기술한 임진왜란 관련 자료이면서, 『懲毖錄』의 서명이 처음 확인되는 書物이기도 하다. 이러한 점에서 『난후잡록』은 임진왜 란과 『징비록』을 연구함에 있어 매우 중요한 사료라 할 수 있다. 『난후잡록』이 갖는 사료적 가치와 중요성에도 불구하고, 학계에서는 이 책에 대해 별다른 관심을 갖지 않았다. 필자는 『난후잡록』이 『징비록』의 저술과 『西厓集』의 간행에 있어 매우 중요한 자료라 확신하고, 『난후잡록』에 대한 판본 조사와 판본 간의 비교·분석을 시행하였다. 그 과정에서 유성룡가 소장 『난 후잡록』의 원본이 조선사편수회의 『조선사료총간』의 간행 과정에서 변형되었 음을 확인하였다. 조선사편수회가 『조선사료총간』을 간행하는 과정에서 편오 책의 지배에 필록한 자료는 앞부분에 배치하고, 중서된 자료는 뒤로 배열하였기 때문이었다. 이렇듯 조선사편수회가 『난후잡록』의 판본을 변형한 이유는 서술 내용의 통일성과 완결성을 높이기 위한 것이었다. 즉 수록 기사의 순서를 재조정하여, 『난후잡록』의 정본화 작업을 시도한 것으로 의미가 있다. 그렇다면 유성룡이 『난후잡록』을 기술한 이유는 무엇일까? 그는 자서에서 참혹한 전란이 일어난 원인을 파악하여 다시는 이러한 전쟁이 발생하지 않도록 경계하기 위함이라고 책의 저술 목적을 밝히고 있다. 필자는 자서와 기술 내용의 분석을 통해 유성룡의 『난후잡록』의 저술 의도와 이 책이 갖는 사학사적 의미를 고찰하였다. 결론적으로 『난후잡록』은 다음과 같은 사학사적 의의가 있다. 첫째, 이 책은 유성룡이 가장 먼저 기술한 임진왜란 관련 자료라는 점에서 사료적 가치가 높다. 둘째, 『징비록』의 서명이 처음 확인되는 자료로, 『징비록』의 저술과 간행 경위를 파악할 수 있는 중요한 자료이다. 셋째, 『난후잡록』은 저술 당시의 유성룡이 처한 정치적·사회적 환경이 그대로 반영된 자료로, 그의 후손들에 의해 윤색되지 않은 자료라는 점에서도 의미가 있다. 넷째, 이 책은 임진왜란을 연구하는 자료로서 가치뿐만 아니라 유성룡의 군정·정치사상까지도 파악할 수 있는 중요한 사료이다. 따라서 『난후잡록』에 대한 이해는 임진왜란과 유성룡에 대한 심도 있는 연구를 위한 중요한 시금석이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Nanhujabrok(亂後雜錄) is a book that describes the various facts before and after the Imjinwaeran without a special format. This book was known by Association of the Compilation of Korean History(朝鮮史編修會). Association of the Compilation of Korean History published a book called Joseon Saryo Chonggan(朝鮮史料叢刊) and the Nanhujabrok was recorded in it. The Nanhujabrok is a book related to the Imjinwaeran that Yu Seong-ryong wrote first about. Therefore, this book is an important material to understand the activities of Yu Seong-ryong and his perception of war during Imjinwaeran. Despite the Nanhujabrok is a very important material to study Imjinwaeran, there is no full-scale study. I am confident that this book is an important resource for the Jingbirok(懲毖錄) and the Seoaejip(西厓集). First of all, I investigated versions of the Nanhujabrok. In the course of the investigation, I found out that Association of the Compilation of Korean History changed the original source from Yu Seong-ryong jongsonga(柳成龍宗家). In other words, Association of the Compilation of Korean History rearranged articles of the Nanhujabrok according to the morphological characteristics of the articles. This is meaningful in that it attempted to the original copy. Then why did Yu Seong-ryong write the Nanhujabrok? In his preface, he said that he had written this book in order to identify the cause of the war and again to warn that this war would not happen. He intended to remind readers of the reasons for Imjinwaeran through his book. This book is freely written, but I examined the historiographic meaning of it by analysing the preface and contents.In conclusion, the Nanhujabrok has the following historiographical meaning. First, Yu Seong-ryong was the first to write about Imjinwaeran. Secondly, Through this book, it is possible to reveal the formation and publication of the Jingbirok. Third, This book was not embellished by his descendants. So it is an important material to grasp the intention of his writing, his politics, and military thought. Fourth, The analysis of this book is meaningful because it grasp the process of publication of other books. In the future, I will conduct an in-depth study on Yu Seong-ryong’s other books.
