노인의 도움요청 실태 및 도움요청행동에 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 요인 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 자살위험이 있는 노인과 그렇지 않은 노인의 도움요청 실태와 이들의 도움요청행동에 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 춘천에 거주하는 만 65세 이상 노인의 (n=2,000) 정신건강 및 자살관련 도움요청을 카이스퀘어 검정으로 비교한 결과, 자살위험이 있는 노인은 그렇지 않은 노인보다 도움요청행동을 하는 비율이 낮았으며, 특히 가족, 친구, 이웃 등 주변사람에 게 도움을 요청하는 비율이 낮아졌다. 로지스틱회귀분석의 결과에 따르면 정신건강 도움요청에는 남성, 독거, 우울증 진단을 받지 않음, 가구소득 100-149만원, 종교모임에 참여하지 않음, 낮은 자녀왕래 빈도가 부정적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 반면, 자살관련 도움요청에는 70대, 읍면지역 거주, 종교모임에 참여하지 않는 것이 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 노인자살예방을 위해 노인의 사회적 네트워크의 형성 및 유지를 지원하고 정신건강의 욕구가 있을 때 초기에 개입할 것을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed current condition of help-seeking and factors that are negatively associated with general mental health and suicide help-seeking among Korean older adults. The sample included adults aged 65 or older who reside in Chuncheon (n=2,000). The results from Chi-square tests showed that the rate of help-seeking, especially informal help-seeking from family, friends and neighbors, was lower among older adults with suicide risk, compared to those without suicide risk. The results from binary logistic regression analyses indicated that male gender, living alone, not being diagnosed with depression, mid-range income, and not participating in religious gathering were associated with not seeking help for general mental health needs. For suicide help-seeking, being younger, residing in non-metro area, not participating in religious gathering decreased help-seeking behavior. Based on the results, the support for social network and early intervention for mental health needs crises were suggested to prevent suicide prevention among older adults.
